JOHN HOUSE ATKINS

JOHN HOUSE ATKINS was born on April 7, 1869 at Hepworth, South Bruce Peninsula, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of WILLIAM HENRY ATKINS and SOPHIA LENORA FRANKLIN. He received his somewhat unusual name from being the namesake of John House, a friend and neighbor of his father's in Ontario.

On December 29, 1898, at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, he married EDITH ALICE COPEMAN, born November 20 1867 at Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. She was the daughter of THOMAS WILLIAM COPEMAN and ELIZABETH SCOTT.

JOHN H. ATKINS

Funeral Services were held Wednesday in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, for John H. Atkins, 80 who died Monday, February 26, 1951, at 4:30 A.M. Dean Craig of St. Luke’s Pro-Cathedral officiated.

Born in Hepworth, Ontario, April 7, 1870, Mr. Atkins made his home in Desbarats, Ontario, as a young man and later moved to the Canadian Sault. For the past twenty years he had made his home near Granard, Alberta. He returned to Sault, Ontario, last September.

Surviving are Mrs. George (Grace) Shields, and Mr. John Atkins, of Sault St. Marie, Michigan, Mrs. Floyd (Helen) MacDougall of Royal Oak, Mrs. Harry (Marjory) Higham of Toronto, Ontario, Mrs. Arthur (Olive) Jarvis, Copeman Atkins, and Mrs. Charles (Doris) Venn of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Mr. Atkins leaves 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The body has been placed in the Greenwood Mortuary and burial will take place in the Spring. Pallbearers were Harry McCoy, Bert McLean, Jack Parks, Charles Venn, Bert Williamson, and Boyd McBurney.

Mrs. MacDougall was here for the funeral; Mrs. Higham, who recently broke her ankle was unable to come.
