Biography

JAMES ALBERT ATKINS
JAMES ALBERT ATKINS was born on September 22, 1863, at Meaford, Grey, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of WILLIAM HENRY ATKINS and SOPHIA LENORA FRANKLIN.

A member of a well-known Red Deer and Poplar Ridge family passed away on Monday morning at the residence of his sister, Mrs. M. S. Paton, Poplar St., in the person of Mr. JAMES ATKINS, age the age of 64 years.
He had been confined to bed for months and had of later months known that his call was coming. Mrs. Atkins passed away at Desbarats, Ontario, eight years ago; they had no family.
Mr. Atkins' parents had a family of six sons and six daughters, most of them raised on the ninth line of St. Vincent Township, Grey County, Ontario.
The deceased came out to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, in 1898, and twenty years later came to the farm at Poplar Ridge; he sold the Poplar Ridge farm in 1926.
The brothers and sisters surviving are John, Orillia, Ontario; Dan, Winnipegosis, Manitoba; Thomas, San Diego, California; Mrs. Paton, Red Deer; Mrs. E. A. McDonald, Long Beach, California; Mrs. M. A. Cole, Kalispell, Montana; Mrs. M. H. Smith, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. H. A. Mitchell, Windsor, Ontario.
The late James Atkins had been a steady, hard-working farmer, and he will be much missed by his sisters and brothers.
The funeral took place from the Orme Funeral Home, Gaetz Ave. N., on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. G. H. Harber, pastor of the Baptist church, and Captain Johnsrud and Lieut. Batrick, of the Salvation Army, conducting the service.
The pallbearers were J. C. Morris, Robt. Hewitt, R. E. Jones and J. V. Bettenson.
Mr. John Atkins, deceased's brother, and Mr. John Atkins' daughter, Mrs. Harry Moran, and her husband, Mr. H. Moran, motored out from Orillia, Ontario, and were present, as well as other friends and acquaintances of the family to show their sympathies.
