Biography

Matilda Louise Anderson (aka "Nettie" and "Tilda" and "Tillie") was born about 1861 in Norway to Norwegian parents, Eli Anderson (abt.1839-abt.1928) and Anna (Unknown) Anderson (1841-1920) - whom I believe is Anna Kühl or Kuhl Anderson [1]but need to substantiate further before changing profile name, since there are so many spelling variances being used.[2].[3]

In 1880 Matilda Anderson at 18 was the oldest of 6 siblings living in Franklin, Putnam, Indiana with their Norwegian-born parents - Ely Anderson (42) and Annie (40).[4]. Her five younger siblings were Hans Anderson (16), August Anderson (abt.1867-) (13), John Anderson (abt.1872-1917) (7), William C Anderson (4), andClara Mabel (Anderson) Tevis (abt.1881-1955) (2).

Abt. 1871, Matilda emigrated from Norway to the USA.[5]

"Tillie' Anderson and George W Pickel married in Putnam County, Indiana on 4 Nov 1880 (not 1881 as the 1900 US Census indicated[5]).[6]

On 18 Jun 1900 Matilda L (38) and George W (39) and their three daughters - Nellie N or V Pickel Darnall (1884-1953) (15)[7], Alma Clay (Pickel) Leyenberger (abt.1887-abt.1966) (12)[8], and Jessie B (Pickel) Lane (1888-aft.1940) (10)[9], were living in Monroe, Putnam, Indiana. The 1900 US census shows that she had lost 2 children, had been in the USA for 29 years, had been married for 19 years, and could read, write, and speak English.[5]

Tilda passed away at the age of 65-66, on 1 Jan 1927 in Bainbridge, Monnroe Township, Putnam County, Indiana[1][2] and was buried at the Bainbridge Cemetery in Bainbridge, Putnam, Indiana.[3]
