George W Pickel was born on 8 Jul 1860 as the first of five children born to parents Alexander H Pickel (1830-1901) and Alexander's first wife, Mary C Knouse Pickel (1836-1870)[1], who had married on 5 Sep 1854 in North Carolina.[2]
His 4 youner siblings were Marcus A Pickel (1863-1928, Susan M Pickel Hillis (1865-1903), Alford H Pickel (1867-1869), and Mary J Pickel (1870-1878).[2]
On 15 Jun 1870 only George (9), Marcus A (7), and Susan M (5) were living at home with their parents in Franklin, Putnam, Indiana. For unknown reasons, Alford H and Mary J were not listed in the household in 1870.[3]
Five months later, on 14 Nov 1870, when George was only 9, his mother, [[|Mary C Knouse Pickel], died at the age of 34, leaving his father with 5 children under the age of 9.[4]
By 17 Jun 1880, George was 20, and two half-siblings had joined the 2nd family household - John A (8) and Lena May (5). Alexander was 49, Sophia J 34.[6]
On 4 Nov 1880, George W Pickel and Matilda Louise "Nettie" "Tilda" "Tilly" Louise Anderson Pickel were married in Putnam County, Indiana, USA.[7][8]
In 1920 George (59) and Matilda (58) were "empty nesters", now living alone in their owned home on Main Street in Monroe. George was now a saw mill superintendent.[10]
Seven years later, in 1927, George's wife, Matilda died at about age 65-66.[11]
On 27 Apr 1930, George (71) was widowed and living alone in his home in Bainbridge.[12]
George died a widower on 12 Jul 1930 in Bambridge, Putnam, Indiana.[1]
Research Notes
Wow ... Did I almost make a mistake or what! Hope I got this corrected before anyone jumped on it. I accidentally slipped into the wrong generation line and found instant incompatibilities. Thank goodness I found the error as soon as I went to review timeline. My apologies to the profile manager. I thought I was helping out - I believe I have corrected my earlier entries today. Things appear to be corrected. We've made progress in the end - that's what counts. SORRY! (6/5/2020 K Wendell)
More info can be found at FindaGrave Memorial # 42730902:
An informative bio with lots of important facts has been attached to George's father's FindaGrave memorial and still needs to be "processed" into this profile. Be sure to take time to view it.
Daughters:
Tillie .... I have no info on her. Are you sure of this daughter?
If this was an error, it may be possible to morph her profile into one for Alma Clae or Clay Pickel (1887-?) or for Jessie B Pickel (1889-?) if you haven't added their profiles already.
i am not related - just helping to get unsourced profiles into compliance. Hope my entries have helped and not hindered.
Profile is needed for his father's 2nd wife Seered name in bio
