my research shows that john colwell married mary black between 1663 and 1669  on the isle of wight virginia..John black,the father of Mary black colwell deaded to john colwell,the husband of mary black in 1669 50 acres of land on the isle of wight virginia.John colwell arrived on isle of wight virignia on or before march 1663 as he was transported by john nansworthy.He was single when he arrived as there were no blacks noted on board ship..It appears to me that mary and john were married between thoses dates of 1663 and the date of the deed in 1669.They were not married in england..jack caldwell

john black  as by his will dated  march 27  1669 gave to john colwell 50 acres of land.John was married to his daughter mary black..This is noted in  a sale of the 50 acres to  from Colwell to Tucker dated april 27 1691..This was in eliz city county virginia

Mary witnessed the deed  along with several of deeds that involved John Colwell.After Mary died ca. 1699 john remarried Elizabeth Tucker who was the ex of his property  dated Nov. 18 1700..John had died in 1699
