William Colwell - Brick wall

Hi

Can anybody advise me how to proceed

At the moment I am stuck on my Colwell surname at my 2nd Great Grandfather William Colwell

In the census data it appears that he was born in Soulby Northhamptonshire England - although the village of Soulby does not appear to exist.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received

Have you gone through Northamptonshire wills ?  Look for one that has a bequest to son William and maybe grandson John ? Maybe start around 1850?

that could be a good lead - quiet possibly the correct place as it is on the Leicestershire side of Northhamptonshire which is where I have him at the moment

On FreeBMD there is a possible marriage of William Colwell & Maria Jones in the June quarter 1854; Registration district: Lutterworth; Volume: 7a; Page: 22.

A copy of the marriage certificate should provide both their father's names to work back from.

Thanks to my knowledge William was married to Maria Jones. Are marriage certificates available on line or do I have to obtain a hard copy
