[delete] and [rename] insert the corresponding EditBOT tags into the category and save it. Optionally, they also insert <nowiki>, in order to disable the category until it's deleted. Both [rename] and [copy & rename] will ask for the name of the new category, which will be opened in a new tab and populated with the content of the current one. [batch categorize] will (in both cases) add check-boxes to all profiles, so one can select which should be used for batch categorization. If adding or moving categories is selected, one also has to enter the destination category. In search results, only adding categories is possible. When one pushes the then visible "cat-a-lot" button, all checked profiles will open in edit mode with the selected operation already performed, a filled-in summary, and an enabled save button, ready to be clicked. Make sure you always have two seconds between two saving operations, else you might end up blocked by WikiTree.

Feel free to request additional countries by providing a page/list of valid entities for it to Florian Straub.

Under v.1.15 (stable) 2024-03-01

..... Connector Image: Gives you a Connector jigsaw puzzle symbol (as used by the Connectors Project) in the header of a profile page if the person is not connected to the big tree.

I have the Browser Extension and just checked several profiles from my Unconnected list. I could not see a jigsaw puzzle symbol for any of them. Please advise.

I saw ONS mentioned in the patch notes for WBE today. I might be a little behind in patching to v1.16. I then found this thread on G2G.

I attempted to update the spreadsheet to opt in the Ikeler surname ONS for getting stickers -- and I welcome any folks that feel like helping with the study. I also attempted to opt out the McHenry surname since there's a category, but no study seems to exist (they're all redlinked).

Crossing fingers that I did that right.

could we get instructions on this page on how to disable specific items you added, such as having pop-ups in G2G when hovering over a question, or on category pages, and other similar types of items? Really difficult to figure out where they come from, don't necessarily want to turn everything off.

You might need to explain what you're talking about. I don't think we actually have any pop-ups on G2G. What do you want to remove from category pages?

if I'm on a category page, reading the description, if there are links on the page and my cursor goes over them, I get these big boxes popping up in my face that hide everything else, have to close them to get back to what I was reading. Same applies to FSPs. Gets rather tiresome.

I think you want to disable the Preview Pages feature (under Navigation on the options page). Just to be clear, though, this one is disabled by default, so--if this one is actually the problem--you have enabled it at some point.

hmm, nope, I never enabled anything, I disable things that appear that I don't want. Have disable the whole thing now, hopefully this solves this.

I suggest that in future updates, where you are adding features, you should put a line or a link to the feature item being changed so people know where to look. It's not always obvious from the nomenclature used on these what it is you are talking about and where one can find it.

posted by Danielle Liard
I hate to disagree, but some action on your part did enable that feature. It may have been that you flicked on the button at the top that switches everything on, or it could have been that you flicked on the 'Navigation' set of features. As I said, the feature is disabled by default.

Disabling the whole thing (the whole extension?) will certainly remove any problems you have with the extension. It seems a little extreme, but you do what you think is best for you.

Updates include the names of the new features. These can be found easily on the WBE space page (i.e., this page). This page shows where you can find the feature on the options page as it is in the same order as the options page.

How do I affirm US to get m/d/yyyy? I see this update, but I don't know where the option is. Thanks!

Many thanks for the latest update - particularly appreciate

. Category Filters: Introduced conditions (and/or/only) for filtering. . Category Tables: Introduced a "Table" button for sortable and filterable tables on category pages.

which help me with my one place study

So, what do I do with this "Browser Extension Update? There's no specific installation button; When I press the "WikiTree Browser Extension button, the only option I get is to uninstall from Chrome. Shouldn't it be automatic? Not a clue, thanks
posted by Joseph Bernier
Once you've installed it into Chrome, it automatically integrates itself into WikiTree. You don't need to do anything else unless you want to play with the settings.

You 'Left Click' on the WikiTree logo in your extensions to get the settings menu to open.

Hope that helps, Geoff

If your browser automatically showed you this page, it's because you just received the update automatically.

Oh, I'm sorry. This is my fault. This page should open up, showing the new features in the extension, once a month. I've done a couple of minor updates which don't really need to send you to this page and forgot to comment out that part of the code. I will be more careful next time. (And I'm sorry to the 3,000 other people who ended up here unnecessarily.)

Well, it seems I am just full of questions about the browser extension. Daughter got new computer & monitor & setting it up for her. Of course, you know the first place I went, was to WikiTree to see everything LIVE & IN LIVING COLOR (I feel like the monitor is going to suck me in any minute it is so THERE!!! 11" vs 23").

Does the browser extension come in the Microsoft Edge flavor? Or do I have to install another browser that is compatible with the APP?

posted by [Living Brunson]
Hey Ian,

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the WikiTree Browser Extension or something else, but I have been experimenting with all the lovely little choices I have available to me on this APP. I might have toggled the switch myself to turn it off, but I no longer have those nifty little colorful hover boxes that tell you about the person you are hovering over. You got tagged for this question because your update popped up at a time that I was wondering who to ask about this; so you are my 1st stop.

I will explain the issue in terms of CSS Style Sheets so you maybe can understand what I am meaning. When you have a html page with no style sheet, you can make it look certain ways when programmed through the browser, but it's the style sheet that really makes the difference in how pages "look". Right now, by "browser output" is the gray boxes with text, no color, style or links. But those little gray boxes don't happen all the time like they are supposed to.

For instance, when I hover over names on my watchlist that used to give me LOTS of colorful popups when I swept my mouse over them now gives me a small gray text box that says "male" or "female" when stopping on the list of names on the left. When I hover over the Profile ID's on the right, I get a little gray box that says "View all of (This Name) on your watchlist.

What has happened & how do I get my "style" back?

posted by [Living Brunson]
It sounds like you need to go to the site settings and uncheck the box that says 'Disable Profile Previews'.

Let me know if I've misunderstood.

posted by Ian Beacall
You understood me. I had found that setting in something that I was going through. That got it fixed once I logged out & back in again. Thanks for helping me with this! I'm finding all sorts of neat little functions on this. I will wait till I get my good computer (2T) as opposed to the toy I am on that just barely gets me in the internet; still have to use it until I get my computer so I don't want to overwhelm it too much! LOL!

Edit: Actually, that only partially worked. I now have the gray boxes back that tell me about the person I'm hovering over, but it's not in color & there are no links on the popup; I have html but no style. I can get the color popups just fine, when I am not signed in. I see the color on my landing page before login; after login, no more color :(

I'm not too frantic about this fix, just more research for you since I get my NEW computer SOON!!!

I really like this browser extension but the one thing that I find very frustrating and that is having to add the middle name after the record has been created.

Also can we have an option to have the source box always open.

Hi Warren. Have you tried the Add Person Redesign feature? I think this addresses your concerns. There's an option to have these things.
posted by Ian Beacall
Hi Ian thanks for your reply. I can not see how you can "redesign". It appears that the button just adds some more fields. There are some fields added like Prefix and Suffix which I have never used but not the more common one like Middle name. Warren
posted by Warren Meads
Hi Ian the other thing that it does is it checks the "no middle name" box. So you have to uncheck this before you add the middle name on the edit screen after creation. Interesting enough there are filters available on the matches for middle names but this can not be used!

So on the next update if you can not add the middle name field at least make sure it does not tick the "No Middle name" check box.

I use Chrome.

Hi Warren,

I'm sorry to have confused you. The Add Person Redesign tries to replicate the Add Person page as it was before the recent system change. The middle name issue is probably related to a WikiTree setting (My WikiTree > Settings > Miscellaneous Settings > Hide Middle Name field). Try changing that setting and see what happens. If you still think your issue has any connection with the WBE, I'll be happy to listen. Ian

posted by Ian Beacall
Thanks Ian. I never knew that setting was there and it was ticked so am sure my issue is now fixed but will check tomorrow.

You can turn that behaviour off in the settings.

hey Ian, so when will that option be added? Really adds delay when I start my computer up again in the mornings, and this thing wants to open at the same time.

Is there some way to subdivide a free space watchlist? Mine is getting quite long and is a jumble of plantations, cemeteries, and slaves of (enslaver name) pages, as well as other types of pages. I frequently go there to get easy access to something on one of the pages. Now the list is so long, it's becoming a pain to find what I want.
Carolyn: This sounds doable. I have to think about it a little, but... I don't see why this couldn't be done. It would probably be a new table 'floating' above the page (maybe)... How would you like to sort these pages? Do you want to add a category to each one or just manually reorder the list? Have you seen the Clipboard and Notes feature of the extension? In that, you can pick up an item and drag it up or down the list, and the new order is automatically stored. This may not be done soon, though (I'm a little busy) (unless someone else wants to do this, of course).
posted by Ian Beacall
Not sure how to use the clipboard. I was wondering if there could be folders or headings in the free space watchlist such as one for plantations, one for cemeteries, etc.
Yes. I guess you'd need to create categories for them (not WT categories - just your ideas) and then assign each page to one those. How many pages are we talking about?
posted by Ian Beacall
Probably at least four. Plantations, Cemeteries, Slave Owners, Misc.
I don't know if this WikiTree Browser Extension already exists (or not). Have the ability for me to see my personal note for each WikiTree profile. For example, for my ancestor https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bell-9223, I would like to add a note (or a symbol indication) that Diane (Peel) Walls is NOT an autosomal DNA match with me or any of my autosomal DNA tested relatives (who show up under that profile's DNA Connections).

I think it would be ideal if I could add a red dot next to auDNA testees who don't match me or my relatives, a yellow dot for those who don't match me but DO match one of my relatives, and a green dot for those who match me.

Or is that unnecessary because everyone agrees that I'm permitted to add that personal information in the profile's Comments section?

This would be most helpful because I waste a great deal of time rechecking to see if cousins are auDNA matches.

This is a standard thing in browser extensions. They can be set to open a page when the extension is updated to let people know about things like new features. For most bug-fix updates, this will not happen. I'm sorry if this bothers you, but it seems like the best way to let people know about new features in the extension. We can probably add an option for people to never see the update information if that would help.
posted by Ian Beacall
hmm, I have other browser extensions, they get updated without this happening, so not sure why it's happening with this one. Considering how many pages I sometimes have open already, yes, an option not to have this show up would be appropriate. Thanks.
posted by Danielle Liard
Yes. It depends on the extension. I also have various extensions. Some of them open update pages to give information.
