Brian was born in 1926 in Endon, Staffordshire

where his father was the local vicar.
He was in the Fleet Air Arm during World War II and trained to be a navy pilot. He was still training in Texas when the war ended.

After the war he completed his education and then spent some time in India helping train the Indian Air Force from around 1949-1952.
[4][5] He was there when his father died in 1950 so he was unable to attend the funeral.
He met his future wife Diana Dickens through their mutual friends Dicky and Anne Burmby.
Brian and Diana were married in 1956 in Loughborough, Leicestershire

The following year they moved to the USA

where Brian had got a job as a lecturer in Radio Engineering at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo

. On the way out there they stayed with Brian's cousin Maisie in New York.
Brian and Diana's two sons were born in San Luis Obispo. The family returned to England in 1961.
In England they lived in Welwyn Garden City for 12 years and then Crawley, Sussex for 6 years before living in Bury St. Edmunds, Diss, and then Tideswell.

After Diana died in 2004 Brian remarried to their old friend Anne Burmby in 2007.
He passed away in 2011

in Tideswell in the Peak District where he had lived for over 25 years.
