Biography

Mary Elizabeth Kimberlin was born in 1853 and christened on 17 Apr 1853 at Nether Whitacre, Warwickshire, England. She was the daughter of Charles Kimberlin and Emily Mason.[1][2]

Mary's father died in 1860. Mary's mother remarried in 1865.

In the 1871 census, Mary was age 18 living at Curdworth, Warwickshire as a servant in the household of Thomas Willdey. Occupation: Domestic Servant.[3]

Mary Elizabeth Kimberlin married Robert Brain, a widower, in 1876 at Tamworth, Staffordshire. They had eleven children: Robert Ernest Brain (b. 1877), Beatrice Winnie Brain (b. 1878), Charles Kimberlin Brain (b. 1881), Millicent Mary Brain (b. 1883), Leonard John Brain (1885–1886), Leslie Joseph Brain (1885–1887), Emmeline May Brain (b. 1888), Leslie John Brain (b. 1890), Dorothy Gwendoline Brain (b. 1892), Reginald Thomas Brain (b. 1894), Kenneth Roy Brain (b. 1899). Robert already had two children from his first marriage.[4]

In the 1881 census, Mary was age 28 living at Watling St, Wilnecote, Warwickshire with her husband Robert Brain (30), daughter Beatrice W Brain (2), son Charles Kimberlin Brain (0). Also a visitor Charles Kimberlin (21) and a servant Mary Fulleylove (15).[5]

In the 1891 census, Mary was age 32? living at Watling Street Road, Wilnecote, Warwickshire with her husband Robert Brain (40), daughters Frances H Brain (19), Millient M Brain (7), Emmiline M Brain (3), sons Robert E Brain (14), Charles K Brain (10), Leslie J Brain (1), mother-in-law Emily Black (64), nephew Harry Brain (7).[6]

In the 1901 census, Mary was age 48 living at Watling Street, Wilnecote, Warwickshire with her husband Robert Brain (50), daughters Beatrice Winnie Brain (22), Emmeline May Brain (13), Dorothy Gwendoline Brain (8), sons Robert Ernest Brain (24), Charles Kimberlin Brain (20), Leslie John Brain (11), Reginald Thos Brain (6), Kenneth Roy Brain (2).[7]

In the 1911 census, Mary was age 58 living at Wilnecote, Warwickshire with her husband Robert Brain (60), daughters Emmelina May Brain (23), Dorothy Gwendoline Brain (18), sons Leslie John Brain (21), Reginald Thomas Brain (16), Kenneth Roy Brain (12).[8]

Mary's husband Robert died in 1915.

In the 1921 census Mary (age 68) was a Widow living at West Lodge, Southgate, Edmonton, Middlesex with her sons Reginald Thomas and Kenneth Roy and her daughter Dorothy Gwendoline.[9]

Mary died on 25 January 1933 age 81 (registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1933 in the Edmonton district). She was buried with her husband at Wilnecote Old Cemetery, Wilnecote, Warwickshire, England. The gravestone says:[10][11][12]
