Stuart Beavis My main interest is in my own ancestors in the London and Middlesex area and also developing other trees as part of the Beavis one name study.
Matthew Cutler
Raewyn Vincent Working on errors, sourcing, merging, attempting connections and periodically going over unknown LNABs in an attempt to discover who they are.
Missy Berryann
Susie MacLeod
Sarah Brooks Working on errors, sourcing, merging, attempting connections of my own ancestors; participating in challenges; especially interested in London Livery Companies and the surname Coverly/Coverley/de Coverly in London & Middlesex.
Heather Lawn I am interested in the Lawn, Larn, Bullard,Goatley, Smith and Hammond families.
Sara Wheatley
Francesca Murphy
Jules Harris I will be working on my birth family from Waltham Abbey and Enfield. I will do my bit with suggestions. I am also a connector, so I will help with that too.

Statistics

The England team use a standard set of statistics to check on the progress of each county and to highlight areas which need work.

The recent statistics for Greater London and Middlesex can be found here. These tables gives an overview of the profiles, showing how our branch of the tree is growing and how its quality is improving.

Team members have been working hard over the last few months to reduce the numbers of unsourced profiles.

15th June 2023 update London reduced the unsourced profiles by 54 last week. Middlesex reduced the unsourced another 50 last week, and we are only 65 away from being below the figure at the beginning of the year.

Praise for London and Middlesex on the England Statistics Commentary

6th May - Great result for Middlesex with unsourced numbers falling for 4 weeks and suggestions for 3 weeks

Sorry to be a pain in the neck, but I was doing a little "spot work" on the family of Mary Norton (Notable children's author), and was reminded of a puzzle regards her paternal uncle, the Reverend Frederick Pearson and his wife. According to burial records (not Find a Grave), both the Rev and his wife were buried on the same day. A semi-sourced tree on ancestry states he shot himself with a revolver.

Can anyone recommend to me a free to view site where I might find possible newspaper reports from that time? (Rev Fred died 20 July 1903, and was buried on the 22nd - as was Lucy.) If there are no free to view sites, does anyone have access -- and the time and willingness -- to check on whatever pay to view sites may have something? Ancestry library edition gives me nothing -- and I had no luck when checking the National Archives (not that I am an expert in using TNA, and may simply have missed it).

Western Daily Press Tuesday 21 July 1903 has “SAD DEATH OP A CLERGYMAN, A great sensation was caused at Warrington yesterday by the death, under sad circumstances, of the Rev. Frederick Richard Pearson. vicar of St. James's Church. Deceased was 47years of age. His wife had suffered in health, and her death occurred Sunday morning. The rev. gentleman was greatly affected, and yesterday morning shot himself through thehead with a revolver. At the inquest, last night, a verdict of “Suicide while temporarily insane”was returned.”

Oh, my. Thank you SO much! (Would you care to add that to his profile so it gets properly sourced? Please and thank you.)

I had been wondering if it was murder-suicide, so am "happy" to know that was not the case. I will resume working up a biography for her.

I have added the report in the bio with a reference, but you may like to amend it for style or to add anything from the article Roy mentions below, which sounds to have more details.

Thanks, so much, Lynn. <3

I'll leave it as you have it, I think, as I have reached the point in my day where I am making stupid, stupid errors. Which tells me it's time to stop, and maybe read g2g -- or a book! -- for a while.

Melanie,

There is an excellent article giving full details of both Lucy and Frederick's deaths, including details of the inquest, services held, and funeral, etc. This was published in the local Warrington Guardian on Wednesday 22 July 1903. It's quite long. I can transcribe it, but it will take some time, and is too long for a comment. Message me separately if you would like the full transcription.

Thanks, Roy.

Anyone interested in nominating Amelia King for the upcoming EPOW "Modern Black Notables" now that I have her Connected? Suggestions to improve her biography welcomed.
posted by Melanie Paul
Hi Melanie, great profile. Why don’t you add her to the G2G, I would happily upvote as would many of the other team members I am sure.
posted by Michael Christmas
Because I have stepped away from nominating - and actively participating - in EPOW threads since it was indicated to me that my comments weren't wanted. It's why I wanted someone else to nominate her -- even if just to add a choice for a non-American.
posted by Melanie Paul
I've made a couple of adjustments to Amelia's biography. If anyone thinks she is worthy of inclusion for the Connection Finder links next week, her name needs to be posted to the "Modern Black Notables" as an answer -- or even as a comment to someone else's answer -- before Monday.

Thanks, everyone.

I will do that Melanie. I added United Kingdom to the birth and death for completeness

Thanks, Michael. Much appreciated. Hopefully she'll make the cut, giving folks someone outside the US with whom to check connections.

Hi guys/gals,

The stats this week DO NOT yet reflect the contributions from the Source-A-Thon. I was looking at all the counties in East England and wondering what went wrong or what parameter has changed. No, the sourced profiles from over this past weekend are still yet to drop off. Click on say 1900s or 1800s unsourced and you'll see a ton of comments indicating a profile has been improved with a source added.

So that total in "unsourced" is technically wrong at this point. I'm not sure if we're getting a revision later this week, or if it won't be until next week, but please do not feel discouraged.

Please welcome Sarah Brooks to the team. I know you will give her a warm welcome. She has just completed the Orphan Trail and is looking forward to working with you all.

Enjoy yourself in Greater London and Middlesex Sarah

If I have a person who was born in Stepney, London, and died in Whitechapel, Greater London, what do I use to categorise the profile for locations?

Neither place was in Middlesex at the time (1917, and 1995), and I ended up not adding any categories except one for Fareham, Hampshire.

Also (this isn't a Greater London thing, but it's in my brain because it's related to why I didn't add categories) - why is there no category for the Women's Land Army? Australia got one!

My lady is a long overlooked Notable.

posted by Melanie Paul
The category for Stepney is "Stepney, Middlesex" or "Whitechapel, Middlesex" for all time periods, as explained here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:English_Place_Name_Categories. You can use the appropriate county for the time period in the location data field and in the biography, but the place category remains unchanged.
posted by Stephen Heathcote
So -- should I also add [[Category:Middlesex, Notables]]? (I think my brain has frozen into US-mode. I need to get back to Aussie stuff for a while.)

I added the {{Notables Sticker|England, Notables}} - but could not think of anything else. It's not really that she did anything spectacular, other than just be herself and stand up for her rights. But things happened because of her.

Hi Melanie,

If you're trying to get the person's profile to appear in Middlesex Notables, yes, put it in Middlesex Notables as you entered above - sorry, just saw this and it's been there a month! And sometimes it starts with a small act, that leads to greater things. Rosa Parks is a good example.

Kind regards,

Raewyn.

posted by Raewyn Vincent
Well, she's now categorised as "Middlesex Notables" and "England Notables" (because of the sticker) -- but there's still no women's land army category, so I guess I will go and request one.
posted by Melanie Paul
If they don't create one, the categories team will figure out something else that might be fitting. I'm clueless on Land Army - totally clueless :)

By the way, found the profile! Wonderful biography there! And I just learned something new. So thank you so much for your contributions, not just to Wikitree, but to enlightening me. That woman was tough!

I know NOTHING about the English (British) Land Army Girls, but I knew a few Aussie ones. (Had a couple in my church's women's group.) My Mum was WAAAF (Aussie Air Force -- heh, now-a-days, they're straight-up RAAF, no more "Women's" anything) so that's more what I know.

I'm sorry I made it so hard to find her, it wasn't intentional. I had no idea anyone would actually be interested.

Hi All

From saturday, 1 February, we are running a month-long "Go Green" challenge.

This will be region vs. region, rather than counties, the winner will be the region with the largest drop in total numbers (sourcing + connecting + suggestions).

All the contributing county team members within the winning region will be given a sticker for their profiles :)

So if you fancy sourcing, connecting or correcting for our region comment below!

Here is a link to the regional data. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England%2C_Regional_and_County_Statistics_Page

If you have any questions just ask :)

Note that you don’t need to sign up if you are already a member of this team. There's something for everyone to do, whether it be sourcing, connecting, or working on suggestions. Also, if you are concentrating on connecting, you may be able to find your county/region of choice on our largest branches page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England%27s_Largest_Unconnected_Branches
