Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your commitment to the England Project and its goals in 2023! Together we are making English WikiTree profiles the best they can be!

I'd like to share our end-of-year 2023 Newsletter. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading about what we have achieved in 2023!

On behalf of all the England Project Leaders, we wish you a peaceful, productive and enjoyable 2024!

Best wishes,

Elizabeth, England Project Leader

Dear Steven,

Thank you for contacting me. I have great intentions to do more work on WikiTree, but in reality I do not give it priority in my life. I am constantly interested in Ancestry research, but I have too many fingers in other pies also. I have a high regard for all WikiTree leaders, like yourself, who put in a great deal of effort to maintain the high standards you have set for the quality of the WikiTree website.

I would like to maintain my membership of the England Project. I have every intention of furthering my involvement, particularly in the counties of Greater London and Middlesex, Devon, Bedfordshire and Shropshire. I am currently listed as a team member for all except Devon. Over the next six months I intend to improve my involvement with Devon and I have checked and find I am not listed on the Devon team. Are you able to add me to that team, or should I do it myself?

You asked for a priority list. My priorities would be as follows: 1. Greater London and Middlesex 2. Devon 3. Bedfordshire 4. Shropshire

I am also a member of the Wales team, but my contributions to that team are relatively low as well. I feel honoured that you leaders take time out to people like me who contribute very little.

Regards, Stuart Beavis (Beavis-123)

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the information, which is useful; and your positive feedback is very much appreciated.

I'm pleased to hear that you want to remain within the project and I've added you to the team list for Devon.

I hope you succeed in finding time to pursue your interests in that county.

Best wishes Steve

Stuart,

I hope you are well and preparing for Christmas, which will be here before we know it.

To answer your questions:

* I have recently been having lively discussions about ancestors in Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Pembrokeshire and bringing another WikiTreeer in as a Joint Project Manager on 2 profiles. The other member is Jerry Owens and we both have Owen ap Hugh (ap Hugh-11) and Hugh Owen (Owen-7201) as ancestors in common. If you look into the profiles of these significant men you can tap into some of our discussions about them. I'm not sure whether these two men are part of the main Wales Project. We are having difficulties with sourcing some significant dates in their profiles. Almost all sources seem to disagree on dates, if any dates are actually mentioned.

* I do intend to continue with my current project teams, Pembrokeshire and Montgomeryshire.

* I am not, what you would call, very active on any projects, really. I contribute where I can, but my time on WikiTree is fairly limited.

* I have done almost nothing on Montgomeryshire in the last few months, but almost all of my mother's ancestors were from there, or parts of Shropshire close to its border. I would really like to contribute more, since almost 50% of my DNA is from there.

I hope my comments are the sort of comments you were looking for.

Hi Stuart,

Wales Project Semi-Annual Check-In

Thank you for being a member of the Wales Project. You may recall membership requires at least one contribution to project goals during each 6-month period. A contribution includes creation of and modification to Wales related profiles.

Have you been able to contribute?

To all our active members, thank you for your work.

Please consider these questions:

- Do you desire to stay on your current project team(s)?

- Which teams are you most active in?

- Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

- Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply in Comments below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you for making contact. I am not very active on WikiTree, but I am certainly interested. My main interest is in 4 counties, namely Middlesex, including London, for my father's paternal line, Devon and Bedfordshire for my father's maternal ancestors, and Shropshire for my mother's ancestors. My main reason for not being active is because I have too many other activities in my life. I always hope to spend more time on WikiTree, but it just not happen very often. I hope this does not preclude me from being a member of the England Group. I will continue to add further information.

I am also doing, or attempting to do, a one name study through the Guild of One Name Studies. From this involvement I have started to add on to WikiTree profiles of other Beavis families, particularly in Middlesex and Devon, and I hope to continue with these. At this stage my other Beavis families in Middlesex do not seem to be connected to the main tree.

I'm sorry to have delayed answering your questions to me, but I hope the small amount I am able to contribute will be worthwhile.

Stuart,

I continue to be interested in the Wales Project. My interest revolves around 2 specific counties. I have ancestry on my mother's side in Montgomeryshire and on my father's side in Pembrokeshire. I tinker with ancestors in both counties, but I still find it difficult to involve myself very often in either of them. I have contributed a small amount to both countioes over the last 6 months and hope to do the same over the forseeable future. My ancestry in Montgomeryshire is entwined with Shropshire. Some of my ancestors moved between the two counties and when I visited I realised how close they are and if there was no sign at the border you could not distinguish between the two.

Some of my Pembrokeshire ancestors extend into Anglesey and Caernarfonshire, but the link is weak and I would never seek to express an interest in these counties, even though I might venture into them from time to time.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for the work you put into WikiTree and thank you for all the WikiTree leaders for maintaining the high standards you aim for.

Regards, Stuart Beavis (Beavis-123).

Stuart,

To answer your question simply, my answer is "No" (although I may have made minor alterations to one or two profiles). However, my intention is to continue to be interested in my profiles, but I cannot see myself devoting enough time in the near future to qualify as a member; or to put it another way, I have too many other competing pursuits that are likely to stop me spending enough time with WikiTree. If that means I forfeit membership of the Wales project so be it. I will continue with an interest in my Wales profiles and I will periodically add to and improve them.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into WikiTree. It is the dedication of yourself and others like you that ensures that WikiTree is a very valuable resource and vehicle for Ancestry Research.

Dear Ian,

I am not an active WikiTree user for a number of reasons. One reason is I need to have some training in how to display sources. I understand the need to state clearly sources of information used in profiles, but it seems to be a complicated procedure. I have limited time available, even though I am retired from employment. I have other interests and they all require time. My personal counties of interest in England are determined by where my ancestors lived. The main counties of interest are Middlesex, Shropshire, Devon and Bedfordshire, in that order. I know I am included in the teams for Middlesex and London area, and Bedfordshire. I thought I was also included in the Shropshire team, but have had very little information of late. I don't believe I have ever heard from anyone in the Devon team. These comments are my observations only and should not be considered as criticisms. I would not think about criticising any of the leaders in WikiTree as I know you are all unpaid loyal supporters of the programme. I would love to be more involved with WikiTree, but I really need some training. At present I have too many fish to fry to take it on. If there is someone who could mentor me to provide me with more skills in the use of WikiTree in the New Year I would be most obliged. Since I live in Australia and many of the leaders live in very different time zones it might be a slow process.

In addition to my interest in English counties, I am also interested in Wales, in particular the counties of Pembrokeshire and Montgomeryshire.

Thank you for your interest in me and my involvement in WikiTree, I appreciate the work you must put in looking after people interested in ancestry.

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Hi Stuart,

Thank you so much for all your contributions to WikiTree in the last six months, and especially to the Wales Project. It’s been wonderful to have you as part of the team as we work together to increase the quality and quantity of Welsh Profiles.

I have you down as being on the Sourcerers Team in Wales. Is that right? How are things going? Do you have any questions? What can we do to support you? Would you like to change any of your teams? Do you want to continue in the Wales Project moving forwards?

I also see you are not currently on the Discord server. You’d be very welcome to join us where we have live text and voice conversations which really helps with collaboration. Just let me know and I can send you an invitation.

I look forward to hearing back from you with all the above.

Thanks once again,

Hi Stuart,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

I'm happy to add you to the trusted list. But how do I do it?

Hi Stuart,

I left a message for you about a week ago to let you know about the restructuring of the Wales Project into new teams and to ask for your team(s) selection and e-mail address so I can add you to the project’s Google group. I’ve not yet heard back from you with your team(s) selection, so hope you are well, and that everything is ok in your part of the world.

Understanding that we are living in unusual times, I will hang on for another week to make sure that you do indeed want to stay in the project, after which, if I don’t hear from you, I’ll go ahead and remove you. You would, of course, be most welcome to rejoin at any time.

Hi Stuart,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Hi!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi Stuart,

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! This certification requires participation in a project related to the profiles you wish to edit. Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Check out our United Kingdom Project, and our Volunteer Hub to see our projects that really need new members!

Let me know! I can help you figure out if there's a project and introduce you to the project leaders. Welcome aboard!
