Communication Preferences:
I am interested in communicating with
anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests.
Here is my family tree.
I'm happy to talk about my tree, any profiles I'm managing or working on, or projects I'm involved with (currently Southern Colonies, Appalachia, and Connectors). I add a lot of profiles for extended family in addition to my direct line. If one of them is your direct ancestor who you would prefer to manage, just let me know and I'll hand them over. :)
I especially welcome source input on my more recent brick walls, namely: my maternal grandmother's entire line past 1800 (England and Germany), and an assortment of 4GGPs: James Belt of Tennessee, William Jones and Nancy Brown of TN or Ireland, Edward Smith and Anna Brown or McKinney of TN and VA, Isabella Clark Raynes of Philadelphia, John McGaughy of Scotland, and John Ray of County Donegal, Ireland.
The extraordinary confluence of fate and happenstance to bring people from so many different places together such that my family was created is nothing short of miraculous as far as I'm concerned. And every family has similarly mind-boggling stories, whether they know them or not. God works in mysterious, awe inspiring ways. Studying genealogy is a fantastic testament to that truth.
My closest non-American ancestors are from England (great grandparents), Germany (2G), Ireland and Scotland (4G). My immigrant Dutch ancestors are farther back, at least one 7G, and several 8G's who settled New York (Nieuw Amsterdam) and New Jersey.
This hobby has taught me that wandering must be in my blood. In the last 14 generations, we've so far identified 384 immigrant ancestors. They were mostly part of the Puritan Great Migration (including several Mayflower passengers), but there are also Jamestown settlers, Dutch and Palatine migrants, and a few who I am fairly certain were Irish famine refugees. My goal is to find them all. Out of 27 known 3rd great grandparents, 9 were from Tennessee, 6 from England, 3 from Georgia (US), 2 probably from Ireland, and at least one each from Canada, Germany, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, and Pennsylvania. Fully a third of these ancestors died in a different state or country than their place of birth, and I am on track to join their number someday.
Me personally, I was born in Richmond, Virginia in the early 80's, but not raised there. After a winding path through much of the southern United States, I presently reside in New Jersey. My close family are mostly in Georgia and Tennessee. I have formally studied political science and international affairs, national security, and law. Informally, I study anything that catches my interest. Persistent hobbies include music, perfumery, diet and nutrition sci-fi and fantasy literature (and romance, my guilty pleasure), and of course, genealogy and history.
DNA Confirmation
Maternal relationship is confirmed by a MyHeritageDNA test match between Ashley Jones and her 1st cousin once removed, J.A.. Their most-recent common ancestors are Frederick Haskins and Magdalena Strecker. Predicted relationship from MyHeritage: Great-grandmother/daughter to 1st cousin twice removed, based on sharing 87.3 cM across 22 segments.
Paternal relationship is confirmed by a MyHeritageDNA test match between Ashley Jones and Ashley's 2nd cousin once removed, A.F.. Ashley and A.F.'s most-recent common ancestors are James Tandy Lewis Jones and Martha Ann Belt. Predicted relationship from MyHeritage: 1st cousin twice removed to 2nd cousin twice removed, based on sharing 59.6 cM across 5 segments.
Famous Cousins
(some of these probably don't hold up, but it's still fun.):
Hi Ashley, A while ago you posted on the VanWickles family I worked on. I am involved with the US Black Heritage Project here on WikiTree and am focusing on my home county of Middlesex, New Jersey. There is quite a bit information on NJ slavery and I hope I can tie more of it together in the future.
Thought you might be interested as far as famous kin, we're 9th cousins once removed through common ancestor James Trowbridge (abt.1636-1717); and you have the same relation through that ancestor to our cousin, supermodel Cindy Crawford. She's a closer cousin (7th) to me through the Trowbridge line, which was featured when she was on the genealogy TV show Who Do You Think You Are?
Hi, Andrew. That's a fun connection to know, thanks! It looks like she's a 9th cousin of mine again through Andrew Young's line as well, if the earlier connections are right. Very cool. I'll have to watch that episode. It's a great show, but I just haven't made time to catch up on it all.
I hope you and yours are having a great Christmas season. :)

Busy here, too -- as you can see by how long it took me to respond. I hope your busy time is also fulfilling! Will you be doing the Connect-A-Thon? I'm looking forward to that!
It has been fulfilling. I've made a lot of progress on a big project, and of course gotten a lot of family time for the holidays, plus my brother is preparing to welcome a new generation in the next week or two. It's a lot, but it's all blessings. :)
And I am doing the Connect-A-Thon. I missed the last one, so very much looking forward to this one. My schedule should calm down enough by then, I hope!
This is the time for the 2023 annual check in with members of the US Southern Colonies Project. Have you been active during the last six months in this Project? Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the January 2023 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to a Historical Finish with over 10k profiles added and an amazing 1st place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 95,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!! Here is The Wrap Up information
Ashley Jones JD participated with The Virginia Connectors during the 2023 Connect-a-Thon, and added 28 connections.
Ashley, welcome to the Appalachia Project - South Central Appalachia Team!
When you have the chance, please add your South Central Appalachia interests next to your name on our South Central Team page. While you’re there, you can read what others are working on and get to know us a little bit. Then join us on the Discord channel – we are a friendly bunch!
Also, please review our Reliable (and Unreliable) Sources for the Appalachia Project to help with sourcing our Profiles as you add or come across them. WikiTree requires valid sources on all Profiles and our Project has certain requirements for sources. Check the Appalachia Stickers Page for tips on adding stickers to profiles. In fact, you can add a team sticker to your own page!
I am always available for any questions or help. Thanks for joining the team.
We just started a new project on WikiTree: the Appalachia Project and we would love to have you join us. Since you are already working on profiles in Appalachia it wouldn't add to your WT work. Just a sticker and a category, here and there. To join, review the Project page, pick a regional team (or teams) and answer the G2G Membership post.
Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the July 2022 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to an amazing 1st place finish. We could not have done it without you! Thank you, Eileen. I've read the protocols. As you can see, I did comment and try to talk to the profile managers before making any changes. In almost a year, you are the only person who has responded to those comments.
And I am not sure what you mean by disproven parents? This is all my direct line and I haven't seen any discussion or changes questioning their identification. They are well sourced.
Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the April 2022 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to an amazing 1st place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 84,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!!

I sent you a check-in message a week ago about the US Southern Colonies Project to ask you about your continued involvement but have not yet heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project?
If I don’t hear from you by the same time next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things. After that time, the badge will be removed. Please remember you’re most welcome to re-join the project at any time.
Hoping to hear from you,
Best wishes,

Team Virginia loved having you as a member for the 2021 Connect-A-Thon and would love to have you join us for the 2021 Source-A-Thon.
WikiTree's 2021 Source-A-Thon is October 1st through the 4th and registration is NOW open.
To sign up, "Answer" the main G2G question and state that you wish to be on "Team Virginia". LOTS of great prizes this year!! (As a note, you can source ANY needy Profile, not just those in VA/WV/KY)
Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the July 2021 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to an amazing 2nd place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 74,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!! Thanks so much for chosing Team Virginia for your first "Thon" and we hope to see you back on the Team for the next Thon in October.
Ashley Jones JD participated with The Virginia Connectors during the 2021 Connect-a-Thon, and added 44 connections.
I left a message on the US Southern Colonies Connectors page but also wanted to leave one here welcoming you to the team. Dig in anytime you can or have spare time.
I would like to personally invite you to join Team Virginia on the WikiTree 2021 Connect-A-Thon. We cover Virginia and all the surrounding States (including Tennessee) but you not limited to those areas. The event is Friday, July 23 to Monday, July 26. It is a great way to add your worldwide Ancestors. Whichever team you join, WikiTree benefits. :)
Thanks again, cuz. :) I haven't done a 'thon yet, but I've got plenty of great aunts and uncles I've been wanting to add up my tree. May as well do it for a team, so why not? Count me in.
Hi, Ashley, thank you for adopting all of those Pre-1700 profiles. It may help to review the Pre-1700 Reliable Sources page. You may also want to consider joining a project. Based on the profiles that you have adopted I would suggest the England Project. That link tells you more about it, and this link in G2G Do you want to become an England Project member in 2021? is where you request to join. Regards, Laura
Thanks, cuz! I'm just scooping up all my post-1500 orphaned ancestors. The plan is to review my tree as it exists here and check those old unsourced connections. I plan to join a project and get my pre-1500 certification once I finish this foundational work on my main tree. The England project is definitely my goal, considering that's where most of my ancestors seem to be. :)
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
I’m going to suggest that the Puritan Great Migration project might fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.
Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).
Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.
Thanks, cuz! :) I'm definitely interested in the PGM and/or the England project, just trying to get a little more foundational work done on my tree first before I commit to something bigger.
Thank you for joining us! I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. How do you like WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How To Pages been helpful or have they left you with questions?
Please let me know if you have any questions about WikiTree. To contact me, log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page. It's really great to have you on board.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
Thanks, cuz! I'm loving it here so far, wonderful site. And I hadn't noticed RootsSearch feature. Very nice! That should be a lot of help with all the Smiths and Joneses on my dad's side. I'm sure you know the frustration, lol.
I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.
It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Oh, how embarrassing. I just searched my spreadsheet and there's no Warwickshire there. I must have been thinking of Warwick, Rhode Island, but I distinctly remember seeing Warwickshire somewhere. Strange. Maybe someone moved through or it was in a disputed origin section.
My ancestors do seem to be mainly in England though, so it will probably turn up eventually. :)
This is just a note to say hi and to let you know that I'm available to answer questions about WikiTree.
To contact me, please log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.
