Biography

Robert (Erskine) Erskine Fourth Lord Erskine is a member of Clan Erskine.

Robert (Erskine) Erskine Fourth Lord Erskine was killed in Action during the War of the League of Cambrai at the Battle of Flodden Field.

Robert Erskine, 4th Lord Erskine was the son of Alexander Erskine, 3rd Lord Erskine and Christian Crichton.[1]

He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Erskine and to the title of 16th Earl of Mar, de jure between 10 March 1507/8 and 10 May 1509.[2]

He married c.1485 Elizabeth, daughter of Sir George Campbell of Loudoun, who survived him, alive in 1519. Her mother was possibly the da. Gilbert Kennedy, 1st Lord Kennedy. [2] They had issue:

  2. John, 5th Lord Erskine
  3. James (d. betw. 1592-1596), brother-german of John, m. Christine Stirling (1512-1582) 5s. 1da.
  4. Alexander, parson of Moniabroch or Kilsyth
  5. William
  6. Margaret
  7. Janet
  8. Mary, m. Andrew Cunningham of Drumquhassell[3]
  9. Christian[4]

Robert died on 9 September 1513, killed in action at the Battle of Flodden Field.[2][5]

Research Notes

  • An Elizabeth Erskine is rumored to be the sister of John, 5th Lord Erskine and m. a Sir James Forrester of Torwood and Garden, although Woods has no mention of her.
