Biography

Asher Palmer Brown, born 24 Sep 1803 at Preston, Connecticut, was the second child of Lydia (Palmer) Brown (1776-1849) and Asher Brown (1769-1815) ^[1].

He married 8 Oct 1829, Louisa Tyler (Ames; 1808 - 1870), with whom he had 7 children:

1. Henry Tyler Brown (1830-1893); married Elizabeth (Haskell) Saunders
2. Amos Denison Brown (1832-1903); married Josephine Celestia Carney
3. Charles Ames Brown (1834-1913); married 1) Delia Hyde; 2) Emma Stafford
4. Jane Crary (Brown) Panton (1835-1919); married Lawrence Panton
5. Maria Louisa (Brown) Grant (1837-1915); married John Sands Grant
6. Maria Louisa (Brown) Grant (1837-1915); married Jacob Stever
7. Mary Lee Brown (1841-1926); married Willard D. Brown

This family moved from Preston to Lisbon, Connecticut, in 1850, then afterwards to Jewett City. In 1860 this family resided in Griswold, Connecticut ^[2].

Asher Palmer Brown represented the town of Preston in the state legislature, and was twice a member from Lisborn and once from Griswold. He was also Senator for one year. He was a cattle dealer and farmer, also vice-president of Jewett City Savings Bank from its formation.

Asher Palmer Brown died 7 Jan 1875 at Lisbon, Connecticut. His grave is in Read and Herskell Cemetery, Lisbon, New London County, Connecticut, USA ^[3].
