Biography

Amos Denison Brown, born 2 Sep 1832 at Preston, Connecticut, was the second child of Louisa Tyler (Ames) Brown (1808-1870) and Asher Palmer Brown (1803-1875) ^[1].

He married 27 Apr 1861 at Dixon, Illinois, Josephine Celestia (Carney) Brown (1838-abt.1916). They had 3 children:

1. Louisa Ames (Brown) Avery (1862-1931); married Smith Densmore Avery
2. Caroline Lee (Brown) Estabrook (1864-); married Walter Grant Estabrook
3. Nellie Palmer (Brown) Smith (1874-1944); married Clinton E. Smith

Amos Denison Brown was educated in schools of Preston and Plainfield Academy. In 1855 he located for one year in Chicago, then removed to Courtland, DeKalb County, where he was appointed postmaster in 1857. In 1866 he removed to Sycamore, Illinois, living there until 1890 when he came to DeKalb, Illinois, where he lived until his death. He was a traveling salesman for 18 years.

Amos Denison Brown died 28 Dec 1903 at DeKalb, Illinois. His grave is in Charter Grove Cemetery, Charter Grove, DeKalb County, Illinois, USA ^[2].
