Wikitree Sourcer Slow or buffering.

Is anyone having issues with Wikitree Sourcer being slow or buffering?  I have been having this issue for about a week now.  Also, it shows it copied to clipboard, instead of Citation saved to clipboard with the green check mark.  I the copied to clipboard, which is in black, appears I can not get the information to paste until I re select the Build narrative and citation for a second time and the green check mark Citation saved appears.

Wondering if there is a section to delete history in the Wikitree Sourcer.

Mine has done that in the past, but it is only temporary, so I just kept going.

Hi Dawnmarie,

You don't mention what it is that you are doing when Sourcer is slow. I'm guessing that you are building a citation on an Ancestry page? Or are you building all citations or saving person data? The spinning busy indicator typically only comes up on websites where Sourcer can't get all the data it needs from the current page HTML so it sends a request to the web server. This can happen on FamilySearch and Ancestry.

Short answer is that I do not think deleting history will help. When Sourcer is slow it would typically be because the website it is trying to get information from is slow. Sometimes reloading the page and trying again might help.

The reason for the two different dialogs/popups after creating a citation is due to the way that extensions work and it varies depending on which browser you have. For security reasons the browser has a rule that the extension can only write data to the clipboard in response to a user action. Different browsers implement this rule differently. In Chrome, if Sourcer can build the citation within a few seconds the browser typically allows it to write it to the clipboard and you get a popup with a green checkmark and text starting with "Citation saved to clipboard."

If it takes longer then new user input is required to allow the extension to write to the clipboard so you will see a popup that includes the text "Press button below to save it to the clipboard" and there is a "Save to clipboard" button. When you press this button you then get the usual popup with the checkmark.

So it is not either/or. You get the checkmark either way, so long as you press the button. Perhaps you are not pressing the "Save to clipboard" button?

The reason that it works differently the second time you build the citation is that the Sourcer extension caches the results - so the second time you do it it doesn't need to fetch anything from the website and can build the citation immediately.

If you still think there is an issue let me know which browser you are using and which web page it is happening on and I can help debug it.

Thanks Rob,  I'll keep track of it some more.  I've not had this issue doing sourcing before.  I am using firefox and Ancestry creating a table with my census so people who don't have an Ancestry membership will still be able to see the census with the family.

I have clicked save to clipboard, when that comes up in black letters, when I try to paste it, it's not there so I have to go back and re click the "build narrative and citation" and the the green check mark appears and it says "It is also saved internally."
