Wikitree sourcer no longer offering citations- search options only.

I'd been using Wikitree Sourcer to create source citations, in fall of 2023 it began offering only inline citations. As of December 2023, there are only search options. I have my sources from years of research; what I need is help formatting citations. I tried removing Sourcer from Firefox extensions, then reinstalled it to force latest version. This didn't help.

I have used it several times today and was able to get the citations as usual.

Maybe something in your browser?
It may have reset (or whatever the term is). You may need to go back in and choose your preferences for the app. I had to do that a few months ago and it is working fine now.
I used the Sourcer to create narrative with inline citations today (Windows, Edge) - did not notice any problems.

I think I know what is happening for you. As I add support for new sites to Sourcer there can be more Search menu items on the Sourcer menu (it depends on the country and timeframe of the source on the current page). Since there is a maximum height for an extension popup window this can cause the menu items below the search items to fall off the menu. You should be able to scroll down in the menu to see them.

When this happens for me I see scroll bars on the menu. I can use those to scroll down, or I can use the mouse wheel or the keyboard up/down arrow keys.

There are also options to control which search menu items show up. So, for example, if you don't have a FindMyPast subscription, you can set that not to show up.

I described some of these options in the WikiTree Day presentation I did earlier this year - available on YouTube here.

The options to control the search menu items are all under the "Search" tab in the WikiTree Sourcer options. You can control if and where the site shows up in two places 1. the main Sourcer menu. 2. The search submenu reached via the "Show All Search Sites..." menu item.

For each supported site you can set the priority on each of these menus. A priority of zero means this site is not shown at all. A priority of 1 is the highest priority and puts the item higher up in the menu. A higher number puts it lower down.

If you wish to you can set it up so that only your favorite sites are on the main menu and you can get to the other sites via the submenu.

You can also set the maximum number of search menu items that will ever be shown on the main menu - this can stop any of the citation menu items being pushed off the bottom.

Thank you Rob -that is very insightful! I'm sure that must be it. However, I can find no way to scroll the list on Firefox-there are the skinniest of scroll bars that I just can't grab, neither mouse wheel nor arrow keys help. I tried to grab a screenshot for you, but the extension is playing pop-up peekaboo and just disappears on me when I try to expand the borders of the screenshot to encompass Sourcer. [Windows 11, HP Spectre x360 2 in 1 14-ef2xxx; 13gen i7-1355U 1.7GHz; 32GB RAM] Do you think the small screen is limiting the ability to scroll? (Calling it 14" screen is generous-display area is 7.25 x 11.25" so 13.3" diagonal.) It's usually a good machine that sheds heat well and is gentle on my back, but it has a few quirks.

The version in Chrome has wider scroll bars and more complete functionality, so I am again off and running. Five more kids to connect to my 4th great grandparents Noah Read and Mary Robinson. Thanks again for helping me make deadline on the Club 100 badge for December 2023.
