WikiTree Sourcer - Citation Assistant

I have added a new feature in the latest release of WikiTree Sourcer called Citation Assistant.

The purpose is to give some assistance in creating citations for those web pages (or other sources) that Sourcer doesn’t have built-in automated support for. People often get used to using Sourcer to create citations and then want to create a citation for an unsupported site and have to remember the syntax for <refs> and external links and accessed date etc. So this new feature will build you a citation using your current Sourcer option settings for formatting etc. It has a set of fields the you fill out and it then generates a citation from them. It is a somewhat manual process and not the same as using a site that is supported by Sourcer, but hopefully it helps some people a bit.

Please let me know if you find it useful or if you have suggestions for improvements.

Tried it out last night, and found it did a good job. looking forward to using it on unsupported BDM sites, particularly for Australian states.
It might be an idea for users to save urls and frequently used text to clipboard or scratchpad, to save retyping.

WikiTree Bee has a clipboard and notes capability already. They appear as a dark green square icon in edit mode. You can name them and save. WikiTree BEE

Clipboard and Notes

[edit]Clipboard

You may have some phrases or citations that you often use when editing or creating profiles. Save them to the BEE Clipboard. To use them, just click the Clipboard button on the editor's toolbar and click the clipping. When the enhanced editor is not on, this will paste the clipping into the biography box in the place you last had your cursor. With the enhanced editor on (and on G2G), it will be copied to your clipboard for you to paste into the page (Ctrl + v). (If anyone knows how to do this with the enhanced editor, please let me know!)

  • The clipboard buttons are now at the top of every page except for the edit pages, where you'll find them with the text editor.
  • You can re-order the notes and clippings by dragging them up and down, but if you click the text of a clipping, the window will close, so you can drag the items by grabbing the number.
  • You can close the Clipboard/Notes window by clicking the button again, clicking the 'x' in the top right of the heading, or double clicking the heading.
[edit]Notes

Maybe you store some notes in the Scratchpad on the Nav Home Page. Put them in the BEE Notes instead, so it's easier to refer to them when you're editing a profile.

Note: These things are saved in a database in your browser. They're not going anywhere. They won't be saved in the BEE Settings (to be synched to another device).
Thanks Gary,

A possible enhancement to the Citation Assistant could be to have a button next to each text field. Clicking it would bring up the last 10(?) (unique) values that the user has entered in this field. Selecting one of the values would copy it into the field. Would that be useful?
I was going to ask on Discord if you could preload the fields from the last use, 10 would be awesome.
However as an alternate idea would a button with user preloaded fields be possible (or both). I assume if you can save previously used data to storage and retrieve via a button, that  user generated data could have the same treatment (effectively as if you could block the overwrite when that set of data reaches 10th place on the list).
