Biography

Jonadab was born in February 1783. He was the son of George Wood and Ann Foxton. The name Jonadab is from the Hebrew Bible meaning "very wise". A different Jonadab appears in the Book of Jeremiah, a patriarch who warned against the use of wine or alcohol. Which Jonadab George and his wife Ann were thinking of is unknown. Ancestry trees suggest he lived until the age of 10. But he was important for genealogy as his sister Jane Wood has no record of her birth that has been found. Her six other siblings have records of being born in Kirkbymoorside with a father named George Wood. Jane Wood named her son Jonadab. Since it was an unusual choice of name and the Kirkbymoorside village was small we can reasonably assume that Jane Wood's parents were George and Ann Wood, thanks to the 10 year old boy with a sister who loved him.
