Private George Williams died from wounds received during World War I.
George Richard WILLIAMS was born on 9 May 1891 in Tootgarook, Colony of Victoria[1]. He is the son of Edward Williams and Sarah Lowther.
12 July 1915, George enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces; Service number: 3965. He was assigned to the 9/23 Battalion, attained the rank of Private, saw action in France and was wounded in action on 8 Jun 1918[2].
He died from his wounds on 11 June 1918 at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station, France and was buried at the Vignacourt British Cemetery, Vignacourt, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France[3].
WILLIAMS. —Officially reported died of wounds, somewhere in France, after 2½ years of active service, Private George Richard Williams, beloved son of Edward and Sarah Williams, of Sorrento, brother of W. E. and L. R. Williams, Mrs. H. Watson, and Mrs. S. Myers, aged 27 years.
