Roger Williams was born about 1700 supposedly in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia; however, no record for Roger's birth has been found in the parish register of North Farnham. It is possible that Roger's birth was not recorded or he was born in another parish in Virginia.
Roger appears to have married Mary Smith, sometime before October 1720. Location of marriage is not known as there is no record of this marriage in the North Farnham Parish Register.
Roger and Mary Smith are named in the will of William Smith in Richmond County, Virginia. Mary is named as a daughter of William Smith. William Smith mentions Roger Williams in the following manner: ". . . son Robert and Roger Williams to be overseers to look after my son John if his mother shall decease before he is of age . . ."[1]
Roger and wife Mary were the parents of Shadrack Williams born the 20th October 1720 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia.[2]
Roger's son Shadrick Williams died on the 28th January, 1723/4.[3]
Roger and wife Mary were the parents of Elizabeth born the 13th February 1724/5.[4]
Roger's wife Mary died sometime before August 1728; as Roger married Ann Williams (the marriage record list Ann's name as Ann Williams), on the 5th August 1728 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond county, Virginia.[5]
Roger and Ann Williams have the births of the following children listed in The Registers of North Farnham Parish[6]: John Williams - born 9 December 1729; George Williams - born 30 January 1734; Luke Williams - born 22 November 1738; Hukey Williams (son) - born 12 December 1740; and Sarah Williams (daughter) - born 18 November 1744
Roger's wife Ann died the 31st December 1744 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia.[7] Ann's death occurred a little over a month after the birth of her last child, a daughter, Sarah Williams.
Roger married sometime following Ann's death to Pricilla (maiden name unknown). No record for this marriage has been found. Pricilla survived Roger and his named in his will.
Roger Williams made his will on the 14th January 1767. Roger's will reads as follows: "I, Roger Williams of Richmond County and Parish of North Farnham being sick and weak but of Good and Sound memory thanks be to almighty God for the same Calling to Remembrance the uncertainty of this Transitory world that all flesh must yield to Death when it shall Please God to call do make and declare this my last will and Testament Revoking and Disannulling all other Wills heretofore by one made and that is to be for my last will and Testament and no other.
Item I Give and bequeath unto my DAUGHTER SARAH WILLIAMS one shilling cash Beside what I have given her by a deed of gift.
Item I Give unto my SON GEORGE WILLIAMS one shilling cash beside what I have Given him by a deed of Gift.
Item I Give unto my SON HUKEY Williams one Shilling Cash.
Item I Give unto my DAUTHER ELIZABETH DAMERON one shilling.
Item I give unto my SON JOHN WILLIAMS' childlren each and every one of them one shilling cash.
Item I give and bequeath unto my SON LUKE WILLIAMS all my land Wheresoever lying to him and his heirs forever except thirty acres of my Land that I Purchased of Michael Connell adjoining the land that I Purchased of Owin Brady.
I give unto Capt. LeRoy Peachey during my WIFE PRICILLA's life at her decease 'tis my will & desire that the said thirty acres of land shall go to my son Luke to him and his heirs forever.
Item I Give and bequeath unto my SON LUKE WILLIAMS all the Remainder Part of my Estate of what Kind so ever (Except what I have Already given by a deed of Gift to my children) to him and his heirs forever.
Lastly I do nominate and appoint my SON LUKE WILLIAMS to be my whole and sole EXECUTOR of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seale the 14th day of January 1767. /s/ Roger Williams (Seal)
At a Court held for Richmond county the 2nd day of March 1767. This Will was Presented at Court by Luke Williams, Junr the Sole Executor therein named who made oath thereto according to Law and being proved by the oaths of Samuel Williams, Luke Williams, Jesse Morriss and Richard Brown, Junr witnesses thereto was admitted to Record, And on the Motion of the said Executor given Security a Certificate is granted for obtaining a Probate thereof in one form. Test LeRoy Peachey D.Clk." [8]
Roger died before the 2nd March 1767, as his will was proved in court in Richmond County, Virginia on the 2nd March, 1767.
This family married into the LANE family of North Carolina, and their Royal lineage is in the book "Royal Descent of 600 Immigrants", Richard Lane, going back to King Edward III Plantagenet, King John Plantagenet, Queen Eleanor Plantagenet, Queen of France and England. The Lanes were from North Carolina, and some were State Senators of that state. The current State Courthouse is the site of the old LANE homestead.
