Biography

Sarah was born about 1833. In the 1851 census Sarah (age 18) was the unmarried daughter of Levi Thorley in Back Lane Westheath, Congleton, Cheshire, England.^[1]

William Duckworth and Sarah Thorley married in1854 at Congleton, Cheshire.^[2]

In 1861 Sarah Duckworth is living with her husband William. She is 27 years old. William is 30 years old and a coal miner living in Odd Rode, Cheshire. Their children are James 4, Levi 3 and Hannah 1. His brother Joseph, a carter aged 20 is also living with them.^[3]

The whole family changed their name from Duckworth to Robinson in the early 1860s.

In 1871 Sarah appears in the census as Sarah Robinson, age 38, the wife of William Robinson, age 40, a gardener born at Broxted, Cheshire. Their children are James Robinson (14) and working as an Engine Cleaner, Levi Robinson (13), a Boiler Maker Apprentice, Peter Robinson (9) and Joseph Robinson (6). The two younger children are still at school. The three older children were born at Mowcop, Cheshire, and Joseph, the youngest, was born at Tranmere, Cheshire. The family were living at 10 Cobden Street, Tranmere, Cheshire^[4]>

She passed away in 1873.^[5]

Research Note

• I can find no evidence of a death of William Duckworth between the date of the 1861 census and the birth of Sarah's youngest child Joseph in 1865. I can find no evidence of a marriage of Sarah Duckworth to William Robinson. I can find nothing about a William Robinson, born at Broxton, Cheshire before the 1871 census. I have searched the GRO, Family Search, Ancestry and Findmypast, UK census online. William Duckworth and William Robinson are likely to be the same person, and the whole family could have changed their name. Williams-47589 12:34, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
