Biography
Salvatore Streva is born and baptized on 27 October 1874 in Corleone, the son of Don Francesco Streva and Donna Giovanna Catalisano. His godparents are Giovanni Streva and Laura, his sister, both unmarried.[1]
Salvatore's brothers Paolino and Giovanni are both active in the Mafia in Corleone. Paolino is an associate of Giuseppe Morello. Giovanni flees Corleone soon after the murder of Giovanni Vella, a crime attributed to Morello and his associates. Giovanni marries in Rio de Janeiro in 1893.
On the SS Coleridge, departing Rio de Janeiro 17 May 1899 and arriving 6 July 1899 in New York:
1. Salvador Streva, age 25 (b. 1874), single, proprietor, Italian, last resided in Rio. He has never before been to the US and is joining a relative who is also named Salvador Streva in NY.[2]
