Page to supplement footballer categories in England, Scotland, Wales and all Ireland with lists of international managers and club managers, linked to profiles where available.
The page is NOT limited to British managers, eg Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello managed England but were not British, they can be included.
Lists should be kept up to date (once complete). Living individuals can be indexed but if you do not have their express permission they should be managed by a project - eg Notables, England, Scotland projects. You can add a link to a deceased relative - eg Roy Hodgson (father) - if you are unable to connect any individual for any reason (eg private profile) where a connection is known.
Connected profiles may exist for some people marked "not connected" but if they are not categorised no-one will know they are there. The aim is to make connected profiles for everyone on the list so if we find ones that have already been created, that will save time!
Anyone can edit this page to add profiles, improve presentation, make corrections or expand lists. This is a work in progress and it might take a while before it is comprehensive. If categories are ever created for collections on this page, it can still be used as a reference note, just add the category to the page (above).
The first ever paid, appointed football manager was George Ramsay at Aston Villa in 1886 (source). He won the English Football League several times (see below).

Ireland Managers
Since 1921 Ireland has not been part of the United Kingdom but continues to have a close relationship, and the position of Ireland football manager has mostly been held by people with a background in English and Scottish football. They are included here simply for ease of research.
Between 1924-1936 the team competed as the Irish Free State and from 1936 to 1953 as Éire or Ireland. They coexisted with the "Ireland" football team run by the Irish Football Association from Belfast. From 1953 the names "Northern Ireland" and "Republic of Ireland" came into use to distinguish them and enable both to enter the same competitions.
Up until 1951, or possibly 1969 the Irish national team was chosen by a committee of selectors.

I don't know if this is new, I am sure I've searched for categories with the words "football" and "manager" before. Anyway it's there and we should use it. It had one name in: Harry Lockett. I've added all the nations, league- and cup-winning managers. It's up to 53 now...

If you are interested in a bit of variety, I've put up a new index on this page (England/Britain Indexes by Sport) of all the England football team's captains. Lots of new people to find and connect! Many of the early ones were both footballers and cricketers.
More indexes for football and other sports to follow.
