Disputed Existence

There is no documentation that names "Peter Carroll" or "Peter King" as a Cherokee man, or as spouse of someone of equal questionable existence, Mother Who Has Empty Heart; nor is there any proof that they were the parents of Nancy King, a real person who married John Carroll.

No Cherokee rolls or records name him or his wife.

A previous version of this profile claimed, citing only unsourced online trees, that he was born about 1742 and died in 1804.

Nancy S., you've now got his vitals in the right century, but he's still attached to a spouse born in the 1700s. Given that the attached Dawes card includes a note that he died in 1900 at the age of 18, that would place his birth year about 1882 (not 1890). And quite possibly that would mean he died single with no children?

Yes, I saw that but I found some other documents I think that had his name, I may be mistaken about that however but will look for them. Thank you.

Nancy, it appears that the attached image is related to this profile and the connected family members, but the dates are all off. You've got born 1742 but the attached census indicates he was 18 in the 1890s. Please correct the data fields of these family members to align with the census data. The notation on the census image also suggests he died about 1910.

Thank you, I sure will do that and sorry I did not catch it. Also, can I add the Cherokee sticker for them now? I sent you a message about the dates and some other things.

According to that census, they were not Cherokee. Look at the tribe column.

Actually, I see that someone has written in "town". Kathie, can we tell from the town name what tribe they were likely to be?

That Dawes card which names Micco Harjo, Louise King, Peter King and the rest of their family iis for a Creek family who lived in aplace called Wildcat, Creek Nation, Indian Territory. They have no connection of any kind to anyone in Tennessee. Please detach Micco and Louise from this profile and I will make accurate profiles for them. Not sure what to do with the supposed Cherokee “Peter Carroll,” there is zero evidence that the person in this profile ever existed, i can convert him to the Creek man in Oklahoma if that makes any sense. The Creek Peter Harjo/King was killed about 1900 when he was 18 years old. (All this information is on the attached Dawes card)

Four years later... we need to decide what to do with him? I've detached him and his wife as parents of Nancy King Carroll.

Do we make him the Creek man who lived in the late 1800s/early 1900s as documented by the Dawes card? Or do we keep him as is and mark him as uncertain existence?

I think we have to keep him and mark as uncertain existence. Since he's part of that family story he would probably just get recreated.

Please detach these people from the Creek family in Indian Territory. They lived in the late 19th/early 20th century and cannot possibly be connected to people who lived in North Carolina in the 1700’s. There are no records to support any Cherokee connection for these folks, either.
