He married Anna Margaret Lindner on 17 May 1864 in Germany. They immigrated to South Carolina in 1865.[2]
They were the parents of at least 5 daughters.[3]
In 1880, Frederick and Anna lived in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, United States with their three American-born daughters.[4]
In 1900, Frederick was widowed and living in Columbia city Ward 1, Richland, South Carolina, United States with three (3) daughters.[5]
He died on 10 May 1903, in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, United States, at the age of 68, and was buried in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, United States.[6]
Found in The State 11 May 1903: Mr. F. Schmidt died yesterday at 2 p.m. at his residence in this city after an illness of about one month. Mr. Schmidt was born in Wendeschenlaibach, Germany, on May 16, 1837, and came to America at an early age. He has been a resident of Columbia since 1865 and for many years was proprietor of the Schmidt Steam laundry. He leaves a young wife and five daughters, Mrs. W. H. Griffin, Mrs. W. H. Stebbins, Mrs. F. A. Hoefer, Mrs. D. Brooks Miller and Miss Maggie Schmidt. The funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic church at 10:30 o'clock this morning and the interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
