Biography

Robert was born in 1869 in Arnprior, Renfrew County, Ontario in the new country of Canada. His parents William Scheel and Minnie Kuhl were recent immigrants from Prussia. His father was a farmer and young Robert grew up in large family of nine children where everyone survived to live long lives with the exception of a sister Minnie who passed away as a teenager. Robert became a farmer and married Ernestina Streich, the daughter of recent immigrants from Prussia. Ernestina's mother Marie was the sister of Robert's grandfather's second wife Louisa, therefore there were strong family bonds and the Scheel and Streich families had traveled together to their new homeland. Robert and Ernestina had one daughter Emma Scheel. Robert died in March 1924 in an Ottawa hospital and his remains were sent by train to Arnprior for a funeral service in his home and burial. His obituary mentioned that "Mr. Scheel was a well known farmer of the Arnprior district and his death creates a widespread feeling of regret."
