Emma was born in 1895. She was the daughter of Robert Scheel and Ernestine Streich. In a strange twist of fate Emma Scheel was born on the exact day her cousin Delta Emma Scheel was born, 20 Jan 1895, and they both had fathers named Robert Scheel. They both appear in the 1901 Census for Renfrew County living in different households as Family 155 and Family 160. Emma was working as a cook when she married William John Hawthorne in Toronto in 1920. He was usually known as John and was not exactly candid on his marriage record to Emma. Mr. Hawthorne said he was 36 when his birth record reveals he was 41 and he claimed to be a bachelor when he was either widowed or divorced. Records for Emma and John are not located at the moment. Where they were living is unknown but since John W. Hawthorne's grave is located in St. Catharines, Niagara and he listed his occupation as sailor, we can say it's possible he sailed on the Great Lakes. John died in 1932. Emma married widower Henry Newman Wright, aged 55 in Toronto in 1935. He had children from a previous marriage and worked as a porter. Mr. Wright died of a heart attack in 1946, his surviving wife's maiden name listed as Emma Hawthorne by one of his children. Emma most likely died in 1988 and was buried with her first husband in Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines: "John W. Hawthorne 1878-1932, at rest Emma 1895-1988."
