Casimiro Ruffino is born and baptized on 10 June 1852 in Corleone, the son of Rosario Ruffino and Caterina Cusimano, who are from Cinisi, and residents there. His godparents are Salvatore Misuraca and Biagia Governali, a married couple.[1] Casimiro’s godfather is also from Cinisi.
Casimiro marries Paola Lima, daughter of Vincenzo Lima and Margherita la Barba, on 11 November 1877 in Corleone.[2]
Paola and Casimiro have at least two children: Rosario (1882) and Vincenzo/Vincent (1886), named after their grandfathers, as is traditional.
Rosario is born 17 March 1882 in Corleone, and baptized on 21 March. His godparents are Antonino la Barba and Giovanna Grizzaffi, a married couple.[3]
A primary record of Vincenzo's birth has not been found. His baptism does not appear in the index for Corleone. According to the record of his death, Vincenzo was born 30 August 1886.
Paola's brother, Gioachino, is a cart driver who is closely associated with his brother-in-law Giuseppe Morello, a member of the Mafia in Corleone. In 1892, Gioachino and Giuseppe both leave the country, fleeing murder charges, and make their way to New York City. Casimiro is also a carter, one of the rural entrepreneurial professions associated with the Mafia in western Sicily.
On the SS Sempione sailing from Naples on 22 December 1899 an arriving in New York on 2 January 1900, are these passengers from Corleone, all bound for New York:

In the 1900 federal census of Manhattan, New York, taken 13 June, Casimiro Ruffino (“Rafino”), born in August 1852, age 47, heads a household at 330 East 74th St. with his wife Paula, born in May 1860, age 40, their sons Rosario, born in December 1881 (actually in March 1882), age 18, and Vincenzo, born in February 1885, age 15; and a boarder, Domenico Lima, born in May 1882 (actually, in September), age 18. They were all born in Italy and emigrated in 1899. Casimiro, Rosario, and Domenico are day laborers, Paula is a tobacco stripper, and Vincenzo is a barber.[5]
In the 1910 federal census of Manhattan, New York, taken 19 April, Casimiro Ruffino, 57 (b. 1852), heads a household at 2097 2nd Av with his wife of 32 years (m. 1878), Pauline, 50 (b. 1860), and their son Vincenzo, 25 (b. 1885). Paula has had 3 children, 2 living. All born in Italy and emigrated in 1899. Casimiro is a laborer in a plaster company and Vincenzo is a barber in a barber shop.[6]
Vincent dies in Manhattan at age 60 on 28 October 1946. His wife’s name is Anna. Vincent last lived at 116-12 Boulevard, Rockaway Beach, Queens. He was a barber, born 30 August 1886 in Italy. He is buried in St. Charles Cemetery on 31 October 1946.[7]
