Biography


The priest Giovanni Rocche’, assessor for the mayor, announces the intention to marry of Nicolo’ Saporito, 33 (b. 1853), shoemaker, son of Biagio Saporito and Orsola Ficarotta; and Giuseppa Liggio, 23 (b. 1863), housewife, daughter of the late Domenico Liggio and the late Margherita Moscato; on 15 February 1886 in Corleone. The witnesses are Salvatore Gennaro, 25 (b. 1861), and Giuseppe Nocera, 29 (b. 1857), both shoemakers. Only Nicolo’ signs his own name.[1]

They marry in the Church on the same day.[2]

On the SS Sempione sailing from Naples on 22 December 1899 an arriving in New York on 2 January 1900, are these passengers from Corleone, all bound for New York:

22. Giuseppe Governali, 25 (b. 1875), single, shoemaker, joining brother Matteo at 337 106th St.

23. Casimiro Ruffino, 47 (b. 1853), married, carter, connected with bracket to lines 24-26, joining brother in law Gioachino Lima at 337 E. 106th St.

24. Paola Lima, 40 (b. 1860), married (entered as male but evidently not)

25. Rosario Ruffino, 17 (b. 1883), single

26. Vincenzo Ruffino, 14 (b. 1885)

27. Nicolo’ Saporito, 47 (b. 1853), married, shoemaker, joining brother Giovanni at 142 5th Av.[3]
