Biography

John was born in 1869. He was the son of James Keefe and Ellen McAnally. He died in 1933.

FUNERAL OF MR. JOHN O’KEEFE, LOWER FATHOM, NEWRY.

The death took place of a highly respected resident of Lower Fathom in the person of Mr. John O’Keefe. An upright, genial, and open-hearted gentleman, he won the respect and admiration of all with whom he came in contact, and whose deep and heartfelt sympathy goes forth to the members of his home circle. A staunch and devout Catholic throughout life, his end was that of an exemplary Christian, consoled and fortified by the rites of Holy Church and resigned to the Divine Will, he passed to his reward leaving behind him the memory and inspiration of a virtuous career. The large and representative attendance at the funeral to St. Mary’s, Chapel Street, on Tuesday last was striking evidence of the respect entertained for him and the sympathy felt for his widow and family in their sad bereavement. The Rev. Father Toner, C.C., officiated, and paid a high tribute to the exemplary life and holy death of the deceased. The chief mourners were-Catherine O’Keefe (widow) ; Patrick, John, Peter, Owen and Brian O’Keefe (sons) ; Mary O’Keefe, Mrs. F. McEvoy, and Mrs. J. Hollywood (daughters) ; Patrick O’Keefe (brother) ; Mrs. M. Fearon (sister) ; Mrs. P. O’Keefe (daughter-in-law) ; Mr. Francis McEvoy and J. Hollywood (sons-in-law) ; Mrs. McConville, Miss N. Fearon, Mary K. Fearon, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. O’Neill, Minnie O’Keefe (nieces) ; Miriam, Kathleen, Pat O’Keefe, Leonard, Hollywood (grand-children). There was a wreath from the sorrowing wife and family. Mass cards were from the following :- Maggie and Jim; Kate and Frank; Pat, May, and family; Mr. and Mrs. Chambers; M. O’Hare, Angela, Mary, Minnie, Arthur and Minnie, Maggie and family. Michael McNally, 2 Soho Place, Newry, had charge of the funeral arrangements.[1]
