Vola G Meador^[1] was born on June 8, 1891 in Mississippi. Her parents were Calvin Meador and Margaret Hunkapiller. In 1900, she was living with her parents, grandmother, older brother and younger brother and sister in Union County, Mississippi on a rented farm. Her father was a farmer and both she, age 9, and her other brother Thomas, age 13, worked on the family farm, but she was also attending school and could read and write. Vola died on November 8, 1902 at the age of 11 years and five months.
