DEATH OF LIEUTENANT-COLONEL MAUDE, OF SELABY PARK.
We deeply regret to have to announce the death of Lieut.-Colonel Maude of the Durham Fusiliers Militia, which occurred at Selaby Hall, the residence of the deceased gentleman, on Wednesday last, the 7th inst. Colonel Maude was also a Justice of the Peace for the County of Durham; and, in every relation of life, was deservedly esteemed. His liberal but unostentatious charities to the poor had endeared him to the inhabitants of the surrounding neighbourhood; whilst his public gifts were of a munificent description, amongst which we may enumerate his donation of £100 to the restoration of Barnard Castle Church. Colonel Maude had been connected with the Durham Militia since 1853, when he entered the regiment as captain, and he became Lieut. Colonel on the 15th of March 1858. He was respected and venerated by all and his demise will be sincerely deplored by the regiment. Colonel Maude was in his usual state of health up to about the 23rd ult., on which day he visited Barnard Castle. On the 26th he was attacked by jaundice, which shortly assumed the worst form of that complaint, and precluded the possibility of his recovery. To the last he bore his sufferings with patience, obeying the final summons with hope and resignation. The deceased gentleman was in the 69th year of his age, and has left a widow to lament her sudden bereavement.
The remains of the deceased were interred in the family vault at the Parish Church, Gainford, yesterday, ...
