THE LATE MRS. MAUDE, OF SELABY. – It is with regret we record the death of Mrs. Maude, relict of the late Colonel Maude, of Selaby Hall, near Gainford. The deceased was sister of J.C. Lamb, Esq., formerly of Ryton-on-Tyne. Her death took place at Selaby, on the 25th ult., after a painful illness of a few months’ duration, borne with fortitude and submission. The departed was a lady of great generosity and goodness, and she will be very much missed by the poor in the neighbouring villages. Up to the beginning of the present year Mrs. Maude was unwearied in her ministrations. Many a widow’s heart she has gladdened with timely help and kindly sympathy. When in health it was her custom to ride from village to village, call upon cottagers, and, where acceptable, leave books, apparel, or monetary help. Many of the benevolent and religious institutions of the age had in her a liberal and unostentatious supporter.
