Biography

Bernardo Marino is born and baptized 13 June 1791 in Corleone. He is the son of Andrea Marino and Biagia Cascio. His godparents are Maestro Francesco and Maria Anna Colletto, a married couple.[1] Although he is their first known child, Bernardo is not named after either grandfather.

Bernardo is sixteen in the 1807 stato delle anime, which records him in the home of his parents. The family lives beside the church on S. Elena in Corleone. The families of his paternal uncle Giuseppe and aunt Lucia live nearby.[2]

Bernardo marries Salvatrice Pomilla, daughter of Bernardo Pomilla and Anna Badami, on 15 November 1818. His parents are both living at this time, as well.[3][4] Witnesses for the groom are Rosolino lo Curto and Gaetano Provenzano and witnesses for the bride are Maestro Antonino Patella and Maestro Bernardo Cutrone (?).[5]

Salvatrice and Bernardo stand as godparents in October 1824 to Salvatrice's first cousin, Giuseppe Badami, the son of her uncle, Leonardo Badami and his wife Salvatrice Trumbatore.[6]

Bernardo and Salvatrice have at least three children: Andrea (c. 1820), Calogero (c. 1824), and Salvatore (c. 1830).

Andrea, named after his paternal grandfather, is born around 1820, based on his reported age at death.

Calogero is born around 1824, based on his reported age at death.

Calogero marries Bernarda Grizzaffi on 18 February 1855. His parents are both living at this time.[7]

Andrea is married to Bernarda Bonanno.

Salvatore marries Sigismonda Bonanno, daughter of Gaetano Bonanno and Lucia Gulotta, on 12 June 1862.[8] Sigismonda and Bernarda are first cousins, once removed.

Calogero dies at age 41, on 18 December 1865. He is in prison in the Castello San Giovanni, in Finalborgo, Italy.[9]

Bernardo dies at age 85 on 22 March 1875. He is survived by his wife, Salvatrice.[10]

Andrea dies at age 62 (b. 1820) on 22 February 1882. Bernarda survives him.[11]
