Biography

Thomas Manson was born about 1757[1] in Brunswick County, Virginia to Peter and Susannah (Hardaway) Manson. He married Miss Pegram around 1780 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. His will was proved in Brunswick County, Virginia Court on 28 April 1806.

Thomas Manson's will, written 19 October 1805, named his beloved wife Ann and six children:

  • Mary Baker Tarpley [wife of Edward Tarpley][2]
  • Susannah Hardaway Buford [wife of Abram Buford]
  • Martha Manson
  • Edward Manson
  • Agness Thweatt Manson
  • Thomas James Manson

James Prichett was a witness. Thomas Manson appointed Edward Jones Tarpley and Abram Buford, his sons-in-law, as Executors. Thomas was apparently a rather wealthy man. His will lists many slaves, land and other property.

Some of the Buford records state that Thomas Manson married Mary Pegram, daughter of Edward, who was 18 years older than Ann. Thomas Manson's will, carefully examined by the compiler,[3] definitely proves that he married Ann, and not her sister Mary.

Pegram Family Album

From #7142, Edward Pegram, Pegram Family Album (accessed July 21, 2014):

Credit for much of the research on Edward Pegram's line was done by Dr. Samuel W. Simmons who spent many years researching Edward Pegram's line which resulted in the publication of his book: THE PEGRAMS OF VIRGINIA AND THEIR DESCENDANTS; 1688-1984; Atlanta, Georgia, 1984.

For many years we felt that we should restrict our research to Daniel's line in order to complete the family history. However, Dr. Simmons is now deceased and his book is out of print and not readily available to those just starting their research. For this reason, we have decided to incorporate the information compiled by Dr. Simmons. This would be impossible were it not for the efforts of Winona Solomon who has for many years been building a database of ALL the Pegram family lines. She has kindly shared her research so that we can make it available here for all our Pegram descendants.

THANK YOU!

probably his daughter...

Martha Manson married Edward Bland Dec. 22, 1808 in Nottoway County (Bristol Parish)

see http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/lunenburg/vitals/marriages/lunmarr3.txt

update - might not be Nottoway County (Bristol Parish): "Marriages continues through the time of his rectorship in Bristol Parish, in Nottoway Parish and in Cumberland Parish. Reference to his change of office to Nottoway is made by his writing on the page preceding that which carries the title "A Register of Marriages for Bristol Parish," the following entry: "John Cameron Nottoway County January 28th, 1794" and "Cumberland Parish" is written boldly across the page at the point where his service begins in that parish.
