Biography

John Manson was born in 1757, in Dinwiddie county, Virginia, a son of Peter Manson and Susannah Hardaway, married 1756, in Dinwiddie county. John was the eldest son and named for his paternal grandfather. ^[1] On January 25, 1790, in Brunswick county, Virginia, John married Elizabeth Rogers, born 1769, in Virginia, a daughter of John Rogers. ^[2] Children of John and Elizabeth include:

• Susanna Manson, named for her paternal grandmother, born circa 1791, in Brunswick county, Virginia, died January 16, 1868, married Jesse Kennedy, on April 24, 1809, in Brunswick county, Virginia ^[3]

• Hardaway Manson, born 1805, in Virginia, died March 3, 1875, in Franklin, Ross county, Ohio, married Ann Nancy Stradford, ^[4] on November 8, 1828, in Brunswick county, Virginia ^[5]

In the name of God Amen, this first day of July 1821, I John Manson of Brunswick County being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and said as ???ing such worldly property as it has pleased God to bless me with I do will and bequeath in the following manner. VIz-1st my desire that all my just debts should be paid. 2nd I leave unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Manson her choice of horses that I have with me at the time part of my estate with the privilege of having her choice of the ?????? during her natural life or widowhood and at her death to be equally divided between my children here afor to recorded. 3rdly my desire is that such property as ?????? given to my children should be valued at that it was worth at the time of ?????. receiving it. and that calculated to be considered as belonging to my estate. 4thly my will and desire is that my estate with real and personal should be equally divided between my children, Susan Kennedy, Mary Ann B Walker, Peter Manson, John R Manson Martha E Manson, Rebecca R Manson, Hardaway Manson, Auria Manson. to them their heirs and assigned forever and for the court to appoint some fit person to act as agent for my son Peter Manson and Martha E Manson ???? as I conclude they are not capable to act for themselves and at any time have lawful heirs for the property to go to their heirs and lastly I do constitute and appoint my adopted son aforesaid Jesse Kennedy executor of this my last will and testament renouncing all others by me here to for made. I John Manson of the county of Brunswick do this 31st of May 1828 make and publish this Codici to my last will and testament in manner following (that is to say) by my last will and testament I have given and bequeathed my daughter Mary Ann B Walker after my just debts be paid an equal part with the rest of my children. I do hereby order and declare that my will is that here two daughters Margaret Walker and Eliza Walker shall have their mother's part equally divided between them. But it shall remain in the hands of Jesse Kennedy my executor until they are to the age of 20 years or marry. I also constitute and appoint Jesse Kennedy agent for my son Peter Manson and Martha E Manson to take charge of their parts and let them have it as he thinks best. And that the ???? security of said Kennedy and lastly it is my will and desire that this my present Codicil be answered to and made a part of my last will and testament to all intents and purposes in witness thereof I have heretofore set my hand and affirmed sealed in presence of Richard Jordan Brunswick County, Court 22 SEP 1828.
