Erma Dell King was born July 11, 1916, most likely in Alamance County, North Carolina. Though her parents were from nearby Orange County, they had moved to Graham, Alamance County, to work in the textile mills. In the 1920 census taken in January and February, Erma is listed as 3 years 6/12 months old, living with her King family in Graham.[1] She married Aubrey Kimball in Danville, Virginia in 1934,[2] and she had her first child, Marion, the next year. Erma worked very hard, both in the home raising her five children, and often working a job too. She was compassionate, quick to give help and shelter to her relatives. Erma suffered a major stroke around 1972, which took her ability to walk. Her personality remained intact however, and she often flashed her mischievous grin. Her health again took a sudden turn in the fall of 1977, and she was sent to N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment. She never recovered, dying from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysum on October 28th, 1977.[3] She is buried at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.[4]
