Eliza A Hewlett was born 20 March 1850 in Abaco, Bahamas to Townsend Hewlett and Sarah Key. She was listed as a child of Townsend Hewlett in the two wills of her uncles - Charles and Samuel Hewlett - who both passed away in the mid-1870s.
Eliza married William Sparks about 1865 and they had two surviving children both born in the Bahamas: Alice Sparks and George Martin Sparks.
The Sparks family moved to New York in 1874. They were living with Eliza's older brother, John Alexander Hewlett, and his wife, Susan Rocilli Saunders Hewlett, in 1880, in Good Ground, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. They later resided in Jamesport and Riverhead.
After her husband's death in 1907, Eliza lived with with her daughter, Alice Sparks Leek, in Southampton, Long Island.
Eliza Hewlett Sparks passed away 27 July 1913 in Queens, New York City. She was buried in Southampton Cemetery, Long Island, New York.
