Biography
Sarah Jane Hewlett was born 15 March 1855 to Townsend Edmund Hewlett and Sarah Ann Key Hewlett in Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas.[1] She was listed as a child of Townsend Hewlett in the two wills of her uncles - Charles and Samuel Hewlett - who both passed away in the mid-1870s in New York.
She married Timothy William Cates, son of William Cates and Frances Symonette Cates, about 1870, in Abaco. The couple had children - among them Sarah Frances, William, Robert Henry, Harriet Elizabeth, and Dennis Cates.
Jane Hewlett Cates died in Marsh Harbour, Abaco in November 1932 at 77 years of age.
