Biography

Agnes was a Friend (Quaker)

The marriage of Thomas Croasdale and Agnes Hathernthwaite of Wyersidd on 3 mo. 1, 1664, (ie. 1 May 1664) was recorded by the Lancaster (England) Monthly Meeting of Friends.[1][2] The couple lived at New Hay, Yorkshire, England, and were part of the Settle Monthly Meeting.[2]

21/22 April 1682 Thomas Croasdale, of New Hay, yeoman, received a 1000 acre land grant in Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, Thomas, Agness and six children and other families from the Settle Meeting were given certificates to leave,[2] which they did July 1682, on the "Lamb" part of William Penn's fleet that settled Pennsylvania. [3]

They settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on 500 acres, on Neshaminy Creek. They were part of the Middletown Friends Meeting.[2]

Thomas died 9th mo. 2, 1684. Agnes was administrator of his estate valued at £47. 09. 00.

Agnes died on the 20th day, 8th mo., 1686. [4] On the 1st day, 9th mo., 1686, Agnes' sons, William and John Croasdale, both of Neshaminy Creek, were appointed Administrators of her Estate. Bondsmen were Nicholas Waln and Robert Heaton.[5] Agnes' Estate was valued at £106. 5. 0.[2]

ERRORS: Quaker marriage date of 01 da., 03 mo., 1664 converts to 01 May 1664 (not March). Also, if the couple's marriage was recorded in the Lancaster Monthly Meeting, and if the couple did not arrive in the colonies aboard "Lamb" until 1682 bearing a certificate of transfer from the Settle Monthly Meeting, then it goes to reason that they were married in England (not Wrightstown, Bucks, Pennsylvania).

Is there a source for Agnes' baptism? I am trying to find a source for her mother Elizabeth but the only baptism I can find on the date given is for Agnes daughter of John not William. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NTQ4-N9N Alternatively there is a baptism 9 March 1630/1631 at Lancaster but this would mean an earlier marriage. Details on Elizabeth's profile. Also see comment below Feb 1618.

The Middletown MM records have Agnes date of death as 8th mo., 28, 1684. I added a footnote (#4) as a source, but did not change the day of death from 20th to 28th. I will leave that to the managers if they wish.

Hawthornewaite-1 and Hathornthwaite-6 appear to represent the same person because: The LNAB is Hathornthwaite. The source is George E. McCracken, "The Welcome Claimants: Proved, Disproved and Doubtful." Agnes Hathornthwaite is disproved (p. 40) as a passenger on the Welcome. McCracken's discussion of the Croasdale family analyzes children and descendants of Thomas Croasdale and Agnes Hathornthwaite.
Family Search has per parents listed as John Hathornthwait Harrison and Elizabeth Franc. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/LKZN-NF9

Though on Geni it says Agnes is the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hathornthwaite. https://www.geni.com/people/Agnes-Croasdale/6000000000967052951.

So that matches the WikiTree. Possibly the Family Search tree needs to be updated.

Hawthornwaite-1 and Hawthornewaite-1 appear to represent the same person because: These are clearly the same person and have been set as unmerged matches for almost two years. Please merge and note alternate spellings in the bio. Thanks a lot for pruning Wikitree!!
Hathornthwaite-1 / Hawthornewaite-1 appear to be duplicates with alternate spellings. Which is most correct?

Hawthornthwaite-3 and Hawthornewaite-1 appear to represent the same person because: Both profiles are the same with the exception of the spelling of the last names. Please merge. Thanks
