Ozite (Hanks) Guidry lived in Louisiana.
Ozite (Hanks) Guidry was a Texan.

Ozite Hanks was born in November of 1909 to Jean Hanks and his wife Carmelite Simon. She was their youngest, with two older sisters and three older brothers. The census taken on April 23 of 1910 listed her age on the document as "1/2 [year]."[1] Ozite's family lived next door to her maternal grandparents, Norbert Simon and Edmonia Judson Simon.

Not long after Ozite was born, as understood from the family story told years later by Osite's oldest brother, Alec Hanks, to his young granddaughter, their mother was killed in an accident, and the children all went to live with relatives.[2]

It is unknown, so far, specifically where most of the children grew up, but it is likely that all three girls and the youngest boy went next door to their Simon grandparents. But by 1920 Ozite was living with with her sister Corinne Hanks Istre and her husband and children, and her brother Bernis was the last Hanks child remaining with the Simons.[3]

Ozite married Clomare Guidry on 15 January 1926.[4]

Known children of the marriage were:

  1. Lovenia Edna Guidry (c.1926-1975)[5]
  2. Grace Lee Guidry (c.1928)
  3. Roy Guidry (c.1930)
  4. Clomare Joseph Guidry (1933-2002)[6]
  5. Herbert Guidry (c.1939)
  6. Robert Guidry (c.1945)
  7. Patricia Guidry (c.1950)
  8. Linda Guidry (c.1955)

They lived with their first children, two daughters and a son, in Queue Tortue, Louisiana in 1930.[7] By 1940 they had two more sons and were still living in Acadia Parish, Louisiana.[8]

Osite and Clomare divorced in 1973. The document states they had five children under age 18 at the time.[9]

Ozite died in Orange, Texas, on January 6, 1979.[10][11]

  2. Alec Hanks, c.1954, conversation with his granddaughter, Susan Ward. She was under 10 years old when her grandfather told her the story, so the telling was no doubt tailored to the listener. On the other hand, Alec was under 10 when the event occurred, so it's possible he never learned the whole story of his mother's death. The story was told by Susan to this writer, her sister Stephanie, c.2015.
