NSSAR Ancestor #: 166415
Rank: Ensign

James, the son of John Gilliam and Sarah Farris, was born in 1750 in Goochland County, VA, Virginia.

This James Gilliam, son of John Gilliam and Sarah Farris has been confused with James Gilliam, Jr., the son of James Gilliam, Sr., of Littleton Parish Cumberland County, VA who served as an Ensign during the Revolutionary War who lived in Cumberland and later Powhatan County.

James Gilliam son of John Gilliam and Sarah Faris was NOT an ensign in the Revolutionary War. This James Gilliam, the son of John Gilliam and Sarah Faris, never resided in Cumberland County, VA.

This James' SAR File incorrectly lists his mother as Susan Richardson. His mother was Sarah Farris. [1]

This James is currently a DAR Ancestor. However, the DAR has flagged his file stating: problems have been discovered with at least one previously verified paper.[2]

James married Frances Hopkins (born about 1750 in Goochland, Goochland, Virginia; daughter of John Hopkins III and Susanna (Unknown) Hopkins) in 1772 in Virginia.
