John Gilliam of Goochland County, "in consideration of the Love I bear to my children"
gives to his son, John Gilliam, Junior an enslaved girl called Dinah and half the value of an enslaved man called Nat;
to his son, Jacob Gilliam, half the value of Nat, aforementioned, and an enslaved boy called Billy;
to his son James Gilliam, an enslaved boy called Bristol, already in his possession;
to his son, Taylor Gilliam, an enslaved boy called Charles;
to his daughter, Agnes Gilliam, an enslaved girl called Nanny; to his daughter, Judah, the wife of Callum Bailey, an enslaved man called Tom, who has already been in Mr. Bailey's possession for "many years";
to his daughter, Susanna Gilliam, an enslaved girl called Betty;
to his daughter Martha, the wife of Sir Francis Drake, an enslaved girl called Delphia;
and to his son, William, an enslaved girl called Dinah; "I do make in order to prevent any disputes amongst my children".[5]
