Thomas was born on 25 April 1704 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England. He was the son of Thomas Divett, a leather seller, and his wife Sarah, nee Cooper.
Like his father, Thomas became a leather seller. He married Sarah Barber on 13 February 1728 at the Quaker Meeting House in Peel Court, Westminster.
The number of children Thomas and Sarah had is not known. However, they had a son named Thomas born on 14 November 1732 and a daughter called Sarah born on 9 December 1738 in the ancient Parish of St Sepulchre. The southern part lies within the old Roman wall and hence was within the City of London whereas the northern part lies beyond the wall. It included the neighbourhoods of Smithfield, Farringdon and Clerkenwell, suggesting the family continued to live in the area where Thomas was born.
Thomas died aged 40 of dropsy (fluid retention) on 28 Sep 1744 and was buried two days later in the Quaker burial ground at Bunhill Fields. His widow Sarah lived for another nineteen years.
