Hello cousin!

We are both descended from Elias Richard DeHart. Glad to have you on WikiTree. Let me know if I can be of any help. It’s so much fun!

Tabor,

Thanks! One question I have down the DeHart branch is the connection that goes Elias Richard DeHart -- John DeHart -- William J. DeHart Sr. I have some information that it might actually go through Reuben(or Rubin) William DeHart instead of John DeHart. I'm still trying to work that out though. Have you seen any evidence of Elias Richard DeHart having a son Reuben?

Regards, John

Great question! You sent me to my favorite site -- FamilySearch.Org. There I found a listing for Elias Richard that lists a lot of children that aren't (yet!) on WikiTree. Reuben is listed, but there is no source. Since WikiTree needs a source, I found myself scratching my head. I looked more closely and saw a reference to a letter from Nathan DeHart [DeHart-1197] (one of Elias's sons) to his grandson Martin [DeHart-1195] listing all of the children, including Reuben. That would be a letter to get one's hands on! Here's the link to Elias Richard's familysearch record: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L81N-K65.

If you aren't already a member of familysearch, it's absolutely free and a great resource.

I know I have a copy of Andrew Jackson DeHart's [De_Hart-982] listing of DeHart genealogy. He was Martin's brother. I'll poke around and see what I've done with it and see if Reuben is on it. Very exciting!

P.S. -- for context, Andrew Jackson and Martin's sister Lydia Jane was my great great grandmother.  :)

No luck in finding Reuben on AJ's list. But when I found my printed copy, I discovered it is from the internet! Here's the link: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~am1/deharthx_aj18.html.

Tabor,

Are you aware of this: http://www.collectornuts.com/ The http://www.collectornuts.com/surnames.html link there will lead to a link for their research on the 'DeHart' surname: http://collectornuts.com/dehart.pdf Between work and travel, I have not had time to dig through the references to verify anything yet.

What an awesome resource! Thanks, John.

I, too, have that pesky thing called a career. I try to do what I can in-between work and home. I get it!
