Biography
Antonino Ciravolo is born and baptized 9 June 1806 in Corleone. He is the son of Giuseppe Ciravolo and Carmela Terrusa. His godparents are Giuseppe and Carmela Geraci, a married couple.[1]
Antonino dies at age 34 (b. 1803) on 2 August 1837.[2]
According to the priest don Giovanni Colletto's history of Corleone, Antonino is executed for the murder of Antonio di Puma. At this time, rumors are being circulated by Republicans (political liberals in favor of independence from the Bourbon king) that the king's agents are poisoning people with foodstuffs, causing the cholera epidemic. Military force is used to combat the rumors, and revolutionary killers, including Antonino, are executed in the public square, the "Borgo," near the old hospital in Corleone. Others executed the same day include Biagio Listi, Benedetto di Mitri, Simone Majuri, and Leoluca Milone.[3]
