Biography

Giuseppe Ciravolo ("Ciraulo") is born and baptized 8 September 1775 in Corleone, named after his paternal grandfather. He is the son of Andrea Ciraulo and Giacinta Carraba. His godparents are Salvatore Ragusa from Prizzi, and Giuseppe's maternal grandmother Filippa Carraba, wife of Sebastiano.[1]

Giuseppe marries at least twice, first to Carmela Terrusa, daughter of the late Francesco Terrusa and the living Giuseppa Pomara, on 23 September 1798.[2]

Giuseppe and Carmela have at least two children, Biagio (c. 1804) and Antonino (1806).

Antonino is born and baptized 9 June 1806. His godparents are Giuseppe and Carmela Geraci, a married couple.[3]

Giuseppe remarries to Pietra Rumore, daughter of the late Maestro Antonino Rumore and the living Vincenza Lanza, on 8 January 1809.[4]

Giuseppe and Pietra have at least four children: Nicolo' (1811), Vincenza (c. 1819), named after her maternal grandmother, Lucia (c. 1828), and Maria (1829).

Nicolo' is born and baptized on 4 February 1811 in Corleone. His godparents are Maestro Giovanni Provenzano and Maria Ciravolo, who is unmarried.[5]

Biagio marries Concetta Ajosa on 20 July 1824. According to this record, Giuseppe has died[6], but he has a daughter, five years later.

Maria is born in July 1829.[7]

Giuseppe's son, Antonino, age 34 (b. 1803), dies on 2 August 1837.[8] According to the priest don Giovanni Colletto's history of Corleone, Antonino is executed for the murder of Antonio di Puma. At this time, rumors are being circulated by Republicans (political liberals in favor of independence from the Bourbon king) that the king's agents are poisoning people with foodstuffs, causing the cholera epidemic. Military force is used to combat the rumors, and killers like Antonino are executed. Others executed the same day include Biagio Listi, Benedetto di Mitri, Simone Majuri, and Leoluca Milone.[9]

Vincenza marries Biagio Ficarrotta on 17 January 1841.[10]

Lucia marries Giuseppe Crapa on 7 September 1848 in Corleone. Her parents have died.[11]
