Biography

Andrea Ciravolo is a Corleone native resident, the son of Giuseppe lo Ciraulo and Maria Lanza, who marry in 1741. I estimate he is born as late as 1754, 20 years before he marries.

Andrea marries Giacinta Carrabba on 27 October 1774. His father has died by this time.

Andrea and Giacinta have at least thirteen children: Giuseppe (1775), two sons named Sebastiano (1777 and 1788), Girolama (1778), two sons named Bernardo (1780 and 1795), Antonino (1781), Placida (1784), Liboria (1785), Carmela (c. 1787), Filippa (1790), Nicolo' (1792), and Maria (1797).

Giuseppe is born and baptized 8 September 1775, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Salvatore Ragusa from Prizzi, and Giuseppe's maternal grandmother Filippa Carraba, wife of Sebastiano.[1]

The first son named Sebastiano is born and baptized 7 December 1777, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Ciro and Filippa Rizzo, a married couple.[2] Sebastiano has a brother with the same name, born in 1788, indicating the older boy has died by this time.

Girolama is born and baptized 30 September 1778. Her godparents are Don Pietro and Donna Gaetana Maggiore, a married couple.[3]

Bernardo is born and baptized 22 June 1780. His godparents are Maestro Girolamo and Anastasia Inserra, a married couple.[4] Bernardo has a brother with the same name, born in 1795, which indicates the older boy has died by this time. See the Cascio Family Space for a short discussion on naming conventions.

Antonino Maria is born and baptized 8 June 1781. His godparents are the notary Don Giuseppe Miata and Donna Anna Palazzo, a married couple.[5]

Placida is born and baptized by the midwife on 4 February 1784. The midwife, Francesca Milioto, wife of Bernardo, baptizes her because of imminent danger of death.[6]

Liboria is born 5 January 1785 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Cl. Don Gaetano and Teresa di Giglia, brother and sister, both unmarried.[7]

Liboria dies 9 January 1788. This record calls her mother "Girolama."[8] Liboria is three years old.

Filippa is born and baptized 28 January 1790, named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Nicolo' and Gaetana Pirrone, brother and sister, both unmarried.[9]

Nicolo' is born and baptized 29 October 1792. His godparents are Bernardo and Lucia Guarneri, a married couple.

The second son named Bernardo is born and baptized 19 May 1795. His godparents are Maestro Bernardo and Anna di Palermo, father and unmarried daughter.

Maria is born and baptized 13 March 1797, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Francesco and Biagia d'Anna, a married couple.

The second son named Sebastiano is born and baptized 1 January 1788. His godparents are Giuseppe Ciraulo, who is unmarried, and Filippa Carrabba, widow of Sebastiano.[10]

Antonino marries Anna Maria Oliveri on 30 April 1810.

Maria marries Giuseppe Gennaro on 12 April 1812.[11]

Sebastiano marries Gaetana Vitrano on 24 September 1815.[12]

Nicolo' marries twice, first to Giovanna Leggio, a widow, on 11 November 1815. His parents are still living at this time.

Carmela marries at least twice, first to Leoluca Fratello. She remarries to Antonino Binenti, who is also a widower, on 7 April 1823 in Corleone. Her father has died.[13]

Antonino dies at age 45 (b. 1781) on 6 July 1826. His wife survives him. Giacinta has died by this time, and Andrea is still living.

Nicolo' marries Maria Marino on 1 June 1834. His parents have both died by this time.

Sebastiano dies, reportedly at age 40 (he is 50) on 17 April 1839. He is the widower of Gaetana.[14]

Nicolo' dies at age 72 (b. 1792) on 2 July 1864. Maria survives him.

Death

Andrea dies at the reported age of 75 on 5 April 1828 in Corleone after receiving extreme unction. He is predeceased by his late wife, Giacinta Carrabba, and his parents, Giuseppe Ciravolo and Maria Lanza.[15]
