Biography

Sebastiano Engaged as a Stone Mason.

Sebastiano Cimino is born 11 October 1857 in Corleone and baptized the next day. He is the son of Maestro Francesco Paolo Cimino and Maria Concetta di Palermo. His godparents are Maestro Bernardo Patella and Biagia Palazzotto, a married couple.[1]

Note: Sebastiano di Palermo appears in a list of active members of the Mafia in New York who are from Corleone, in the same source that names Sebastiano Cimino as the father-in-law of two Morello associates, Fortunato lo Monte and Giuseppe Lagumina.[2] "Di Palermo" is Sebastiano's mother's name, and how his name appears in the index when he marries in Corleone in 1878. Sebastiano's first cousin is named Sebastiano di Palermo and he is also an emigrant to New York City.

Sebastiano marries Rosa Badolato, daughter of Maestro Giuseppe Badolato and Antonina Fiducia, on 30 July 1878 in Corleone. His mother has died by this time.[3]

Sebastiano and Rosa have at least four children: Concetta Annie (1880), Antonia (c. 1885), Charles Salvatore (c. 1890), and Biagia (c. 1895).

Concetta Annie is born 1 September 1880 in Italy, according to the record of her death.

Antonia is born around 1885 in Sicily, according to the record of her marriage.

Sebastiano di Palermo immigrates in 1886, according to Warner et al.[2]

Charles is born around 1890 in the United States, according to the 1905 New York state census.

Rosa's brother, Francesco Paolo, marries Mariannina lo Monte, a sister of Fortunato lo Monte, in 1894 in New York City.

Biagia is born around 1895 in Denison, Texas, 75 miles north of Dallas.

Concetta marries Saverio Guidera on 15 September 1898 in Manhattan.[4]

Antonia, who is called by her middle name, Lena, is 18 (b. 1885) when she marries Fortunato Lomonte on 17 December 1903 in Manhattan.[5][6]

In the 1905 New York State census of Manhattan (AD 32, ED 19) taken 1 June, Sebastiano Cimino, 47 (b. 1858), heads a household on East 106th St. in Manhattan with his wife Rosie, 47 (b. 1858). They were both born in Italy. Also at home are children Charles, 15 (b. 1890), and "Passie" (this is a match for Biagia, based on her age), 10 (b. 1895), both born in the US. Sebastiano is a stonemason, and Charles is a plasterer. Their close neighbors include Fortunato and Lena, Fortunato's parents, and Giuseppe Morello, who appears as "Joseph Terranova" in this census.[7]

In 1911, Giuseppe Morello goes to prison, and Fortunato lo Monte and his brother, Tom, run his Mafia gang. Fortunato is killed in 1914. Afterward, Antonina and her children lived with Biagia and Giuseppe.[2]

Biagia is 21 (b. 1895) when she marries Giuseppe Lagumina, age 25 (b. 1891 in Corleone), on 22 April 1916 in Manhattan. Her marriage record names Biagia's parents and her birthplace.[8]

Giuseppe Lagumina is an associate of Giuseppe Morello, along with his uncle, Giovanni Rumore.[2]
